Not too bad especially coming from ESPN. Still too early to grade IMO since FA is still going on.

Miami Dolphins
Grade: B

Key signings: LT Branden Albert, DL Earl Mitchell, G Shelley Smith, DT Randy Starks, CB Cortland Finnegan
Key subtractions: T Jonathan Martin, G Richie Incognito, CB Nolan Carroll, DL Paul Soliai

Free agency is about filling needs. The Dolphins' needs on the offensive line, particularly at tackle, were about as pronounced as any team's needs at any position. Moving aggressively to land Albert early in free agency made sense for the Dolphins under the circumstances.

"They did a nice job," Polian said. "Albert, while not the answer, is a helluva lot better than what they had. Mitchell is a big upgrade. They had to keep Starks. Finnegan is two continents better than Carroll. By and large, excellent work."

The Dolphins appear close to set on defense.

"I'd rather have Mitchell than Soliai, and keeping Brent Grimes was huge," Williamson said. "Shelley Smith is a vastly underrated pickup. They still need a running back, but who cares? They are clearly the second-best team in the AFC East right now."

"...They are clearly the second-best team in the AFC East right now..."

Why do I feel this statement will make this thread turn into 34 pages of Junc defending Sanchez?

bill polian is such a clown...if $47 mil on alberts not the answer what is...and if he's not the answer how can you give them a high mark in free agency...amazing that dumbo still has a job in the league even if it is with bspn

Apparently only the all-time best LT would have been a better move, lol. The defense is not even close to being set, all the LBers have something to prove and healthy competition never hurts.

I guess it depends on how you want to look at the signings. If you look at what's available during said offseason then Albert was a great signing. If you look and compare players across years in free agency then that could make a signing like that of Mike Wallace last year look horrible. Wallace was what was available at wr last year and it is unfortunate that the cap space became available for our team in a down year for wrs but we signed the best that we could that year. But Wallace by no means is a top wr nor is Albert a top OT imo.

How is Martin considered a "key subtraction" and a 16 game starter in John Jerry is not mentioned?

The predicted spin: "if the Jets kept Sanchez, the Fins would be considered #3" (Of course the implication he backs into when declaring cutting Sanchez loose to be a mistake, is that the jets are not that smart a team after all)

Grimes should bey name #1 on key signings! I realized he is mentioned later, but I still void any of these opinions for that oversight.

Im with you on this!

How does signing a top 10 LT under the age of 30 not an answer for LT? Polian is a dumbass.

Well if you believe in PFF's grades, he wasn't a top 10 LT last year. He was 18th at LT and 28th overall.

My eyes tells me he is top 5 pass block and top half of league in run blocking. Fits the scheme well. Coaches love him.

This is no stop gap. He is the answer for the coming years.

I see 3 additions by subtraction and Soliai in this list.

11th in pass blocking is really good but he's way down there in run blocking at 40th. He's as good of signing as we could have made this offseason though and should be a great fit on the team. I agree that he's not a stop gap and should be our starting LT for years.

Carroll had the 9th lowest QB rating in his area last year, better than even Grimes. I don't think people realize how good he was last year and he's a loss. Took him a while to become a quality CB but unless last year was fluke he's there now.
