Just saw it on ESPN. I think he hurt his calf in practice today. This will really hurt them if he cant play tommorrow.

Oh boy. I thought their pitching would be fine without Pedro, but now without El Duque. They're in trouble.

I am now officially worried

Every year, a new young gun comes thru big time in the playoffs!!

Welcome Mr. Maine to the big time!!!!

Anna who???

John Maine as your Game 1 starter in the playoffs does not bode well.

I don't know. He probably pitched better the last few months of the season than anyone. I'm a heck of a lot more confident with Maine starting game 1 than the Human Rain Delay.

It could if we win game 1 and el duque is ready for game 3 or 4. I said it before he was a met that there were very few pitchers id rather have in a big game. The only 2 i can think of are Mo Rivera and Curt Schilling. All the others that have had great regular season success, im just not sure they handle the postseason as well.

Derek Lowe and Brad Penny have a history of post season success having both won rings ( I believe both got the victory on the clinching game too). Come to think of it, Maddux has a ring and a ton of postseason experience too. L.A.'s starting staff certainly should have the edge here, especially if Livan is scratched alongside Pedro.

Let me put it this way. On Day 1 of the season, if I told you you'd be in the playoffs, what would you think if I told you a 6-5 John Maine would be starting it?

Well, now that's a completely different story

But if you wouldn't have been confident in it then, it hasn't changed much to now. Obviously, the guy didn't go 0-20 with a 10 ERA, but he didn't do the opposite, either. If he's your top gun, though, that's trouble.

You're way off here.

First of all, at the beginning of the year everything would be based off of speculation, and an overall compilation of statistics. SEEING Maine's progression through the season is not the same as speculating at the beginning of the year based off of an ERA and W/L record for the year.

Secondly, no one's calling him our top gun. He just may have to pitch in the place generally reserved for the top gun. With any decent notice before hand, Maine would not be pitching in this game. I was just pointing out that it's not nearly as dismal as you were making it out to be. Dismal would have be Trax pitching. There's a W/L that doesn't tell you anything meaningful.

That's why we play the games, stats and paper mean squat!
