ESPN:Miami Dolphins' projected roster

Matt Moore, Daniel Thomas, and Michael Egnew is settling for mediocrity yet again. Think any of those dudes make the Pat's roster? Nope.
None of these are starters or are projected as starters. I would agree that DT and ME don't make the Pats' roster but you don't think if it weren't for the economics that the Pats wouldn't want Moore as a backup? I would disagree with you there.

I wish we were at the level that I was worried about out backups not competing - we aren't there yet.

To be fair there is a big difference in continuity, Belicheck has been in New England how long so has had ample time to build his roster with his players, Philbin and Hickey are in a much different scenario. I think we are starting to see good competition at DT, DE, WR while areas like LB, OL aren't there yet.

It was not my intention to bash Philbin and Hickey. To your point - we haven't had continuity. My point was that I'm not nearly as concerned yet with our backups making someone's roster as I am with our starting positions. We do have quality depth in some areas and in others like LB, proven OL, and RB not so much. You can't fix everything in one or two years.

I think Larsen is the most overlooked 53 man. I wouldn't be surprised if one of our FA's doesn't make the cut on OL. I think only 1 maybe 2 will survive out of Fox, Colledge and Garner. I think Larsen is locked in given Pouncey's situation and Larsen and Brenner's ability to play all interior spots.

My OL (10) is James, Albert, Larsen, Pouncey, Brenner, Thomas, Turner, Smith, Fox and Colledge/Garner.

My RB (3) is Miller, Moreno and Williams/Gillislee.

I think Anthony Johnson and Fede makes the cut. That unit got tired last year. Running 10 deep would really help. Especially considering Jordan won't be here for 4 games.

And I wouldn't be surprised by another shocker cut or 2 to make room for Fede and Johnson. Maybe only 6 LBs? (Jordan has so much range and coverage ability he could mask as a LB.) And I do think Tripp makes the cut.

We can't keep them all. But I really think Pouncey just punched his ticket out. If Larsen surprises like his potential eludes, we may have found a gem to help us move Pouncey out the door and be rid of all of last years problems.

I know one thing, we suddenly have a L.O.T. of young talent that is making 53 a VERY DIFFICULT number to obtain. Cutting potential starters down the road is a very nice position to be in. We've finally got some very good depth and young players filling the ranks. It appears our true weakest link is the LB and RB groups.

Every other unit seems loaded with good/great pieces. It's been a long time since we could say that folks.... a very long time.

Injuries will play a part. A lower-fringe guy is doomed if he get a hammy or anything like that. Egnew could be gone if he's a slow learner. That might have hurt him with Sherman and might hurt him with the new OC if he is slow to pick stuff up. Also, I was really digging Thigpen as a receiver out of the backfield. Moreno can't scoot like that. If Clay can block, he should be the blocking back on 3rd downs. He can run a draw play too.

I didn't really like the Moreno signing from the get-go. I wish they could've gotten Starks from Green Bay.
