ESPN: Miami may be Trading for 2nd Pick

I'll shut this down right now, because these comparisons are beginning to get more and more ridiculous. I get it, he's extremely athletic, so he gets compared to every scrambling QB to ever play college football.

Since most who obviously hasn't watched him play much, but yet seem to speak as if they KNOW who Robert Griffin III is. Let's compare senior seasons:

Stat line: Pass completions/Attempts - Completion % - Yds - TDs/Ints

Cam Newton 2010: 185/280 - 66.1% - 2,854 - 30/7
Pat White: 180/274 - 65.7% - 1,842 - 21/7
Troy Smith: 203/311 - 65.3% - 2,542 - 30/6
Vince Young: 215/325 - 65.2% - 3,036 - 26/10
Michael Vick: 97/179 - 54.2% - 1,439 - 9/7

Robert Griffin III: 291/402 - 72.4% - 4,293 - 37/6
Andrew Luck: 288/404 - 71.3% - 3,517 - 37/10

His schedule: TCU, Stephen F Austin, Rice, Kansas State, Iowa State, Texas A&M, Oklahoma St, Missou, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech, Texas, and of course Washington in the Alamo Bowl.

All of this will be moot anyway, because I don't believe we'll have enough to move up to get him anyway. But anyone who compares him to any of the scrambling QBs of the past, clearly hasn't watched him play much, if any; He won the Heisman over Andrew Luck for a reason.

Plus Big 12 top to bottom was one of the best conferences too...

He is worth a chance...

Many people want to play it safe...We have done that for a ****ing decade and been mediocre...

Time to take a chance.

One of the dangers in comparing RG3 to Newton is Cam's huge size advantage. When you watch Cam you see him using every inch of that athletic superiority. Still, it's hard to doubt RG3 when you're watching him. He's such a blast to watch and uncanny accuracy to go with all the physical gifts. He'll have a rougher transition to the pros than someone like Cam. He needs to make quicker decisions and quit throwing off his back foot. He's probably going to take a ton of sacks and you're going to be looking at injury concerns. But I'd be excited to watch him in a Dolphins uni.

I think we might be surprised by the scenarios to trade up. If the Browns choose to fill their QB need with Flynn which they might choose to since they've already wasted a few years trying to develop a deadend young QB. Then you have to wonder if the Rams would want to trade that 2nd pick down to Wash at 6 or us and miss out on Blackmon or Khalil. We might end up dealing with Min or if Wash winds up with Peyton then RG3 might slip to us.

I think Min might be interested in Blackmon as Percy Harvin is their only receiving threat; They need a #1 receiver. With that said, Cleveland and Washington are the only two teams that we have to worry about. If you're right about Flynn to Cleveland (which makes a ton of sense as Shurmur runs a WCO), then Washington would be our biggest concern. We may be able to leapfrog them by working out a trade with Tampa Bay to move up 3 spots (assuming we win the coin toss for the 8th pick). The Rams are also a big wild card, I think they may want Blackmon, but Khalil is a big possibility there as Bradford needs that protection up front so he doesn't become David Carr.

Yeah, good read of the situation. Min is definitely a player for Blackmon, Khalil too actually. I think if St Louis does trade down they'd strongly favor dealing with Cle as a playmaker on offense and LT are such strong needs for them that at 4 they'd be guaranteed a shot at one of them. But I could see the 2nd and 3rd spots staying put if the offers to trade up aren't good enough. All I hear from Tampa is their love affair with Mo. So if Cle signs Flynn they might surprisingly become our best hope to leapfrog Wash. Just a lot of scenarios and I expect whatever plays out to be a bit surprising.

This has always been my biggest concern. Until you pointed out the Flynn link, I viewed Cle as the biggest competitor to trade up to that #2 spot for RG III . We wouldn't have the ammo to outbid them, and if we did, the price may be too steep. For STL the deal would be too sweet for them to pass up; Move down 2 spots while picking up another pick in the 1st round. They are essentially guaranteed the opportunity to still draft their guy, plus another blue chip prospect. Let's hope Flynn is their target...

Exactly, if Cle is out of the hunt we suddenly have a lot more leverage. If only we had Flynn's address we could send him a brochure detailing what an international hotspot and scenic wonderland Cleveland, Ohio is.
