ESPN: Miami QB Situation Among Worst in League

I'm no Cutler fan, but I find this article really unfair, they are throwing this guy under the bus because he is an easy target and it makes a great talking point. There is a reason that Miami's QB situation is the worst in the league and Cutler plays a part in that...no argument from me, but we can't protect any QB at this point and you throw the blame squarely at the mans feet....total BS. How many times do we have to say it, fix the F...ing Oline and things will immediately improve for this team. Continue with this patchwork approach and we will have the same problem as we have had for the past decade. Drafting Offensive lineman or better yet.....the right kind of lineman is not sexy, but it is vital if you want to put together a winning team. What is the right Olineman you might ask, I have no idea.

The oline hasn't been bad in pass pro.

Ok so the poor run blocking has made us one dimensional, so they're to blame in that respect, but Cutler is getting heat because he deserves it.

Whole team top to bottom has been bad. Very disappointing from the beginning of training camp

if we sit here and wait for the perfect line, we will never win. I was watching some of the Pats game last night. There was huge pressure on Brady to start, but he anticipated some of that rush and made his move quick enough to throw the ball. The elite ab's in this league don't always have great lines, but they are able to still play at a high level.

We lost our starting QB last year and didn't become the worst QB led team. I was a fan of the Cutler move at the time but in hindsight they should have signed a backup and went with Moore. Its not a crime to say you were wrong. Gase and FO should admit their mistake and move on. Moore played behind this line last year. The OL might not have improved but it didn't get much worse. Yes, it still stinks but it did last year and we made due with RT and Moore.

Before Philbin, Miami's o-line wasn't "elite", but it was half-decent (except for the turnstiles at RT). When Philbin was hired, he wanted a different type of o-lineman to run his different style of blocking schemes. This is where everything went into the toilet. Philbin's offensive philosophy was terrible, and that carried over to his o-line's performance. He put little to no emphasis on run-blocking, because in his offense the short pass took the place of the run. Linemen didn't have to sustain blocks because the short pass was favored over the deep ball. Philbin wanted athletic linemen who could execute his zone-blocking schemes. The results of his "new" o-line were the inability to control the clock by running the ball down an opponent's throat, and poor pass protection with Tannehill being sacked more than any other QB over a 4 year period.

The new regime should have replaced ALL of Philbin's pathetic o-linemen, but Gase is another fan of the short pass based offense and fancy zone-blocking schemes. Go old-school, and dominate opposing d-lines!

Totally not convinced that what we have seen the last two games is as good as it gets from a Cutler led offense. I do think it gets better but this is certainly not what I expected. I expected some Cutler rust, I didn't expect the offensive line to take several steps back and the playcaller to go into a shell.

But this is an area where Adam Gase and the front office need fingers pointed at them. No foresight at the position. Putting faith in Matt Moore as a short term fill in guy but not trusting him to start a season or having another young prospect under Ryan to develop in case of injury or just lack of progress. Doughty? Give me a break.

Terrible job addressing the most important position on the field.

That's a Dolphins' tradition dating back to JJ. 20+ years and counting of mishandling the QB position (and no, that doesn't include Tannehill-- he's actually one of the few things they've done to correctly handle the QB position).

Isn't that amazing? The qb and also the OL has essentially been ignored, despite acquisitions like Albert, James and Pouncey. Even though we signed or drafted those players (and even before that), the offensive line was always an issue and they never ever decided to fix it. And since 1999, only drafting a qb once in the first round? It's like Miami is playing a different game than anyone else. They want to have players fall to them, vs going after the players. In a league dominated by passing, they want to run the ball and pass conveniently. And it finally took them almost 4 seasons to stop the run, knowing that if offenses are 1D, you can really tee-off on them.

As I said after he was signed, Cutler is who he has always been. An average guy with a nonchalant, seemingly uncaring aura, who throws picks at will.

Most die-hard Bears fans couldn't stand him. Had a big arm but looks like he may have lost that now too.

Oline has been status quo in pass pro and his pocket awareness gas been ok but the decision making and accuracy is ****. Oh and Gase hasn't helped with his ridiculous predictable, safe, vanilla play calling. There is absolutely no creativity in that regards.

Look at teams that understand the importance of qb, by trading up and getting them - in the past few years. In addition, teams drafting qb's understand that it's the best way to re-kindle a fan base and a team. Miami seems to be just waiting to build the perfect line, not caring who is back there. Good qb's don't need the perfect line. Brady was under pressure in the first qtr last night and I saw him anticipate where the rush was coming from or move to avoid the rush, and make throws.

It will be an eventful Spring. Between RT's salary and health and the fact Miami has given every excuse that it isn't the qb that's caused us to be mediocre, Miami may have to finally address this situation head on
