ESPN Walker: Dolphins QBs could surprise in 2012

I think your right. Matt Moore is a gamer but not a good practice guy from all reports. I think they are in no rush on Tannehill so maybe David wins by default. I would not count Matt out just yet though. He may kick butt in the pre season games and claim the starting role.

I don't know how any QB could win a position in practice with no pads yet. It's way too early to tell.

Regarding Walker.... I didn't agree with him when he was not reporting favorably and I take no comfort in his report now. Besides, his logic is flawed. We have a good group because "each brings something different"? That logic doesn't work any better now than it did with "WoodStrock".

Not so sure the 2011 Colts would agree wtih you on that one, in today's league you need depth at all positions becuase guys just aren't allowed to play with injuries like they used to be able to.

Most teams aren't absolutely terrible minus their super elite QB though

Maybe not, but I will am pretty sure the 1999 through 2010 Colts would agree with me on this one. Who over a period of 12 years went 138 wins, 54 losses...won 10 or more games 11 years, went to the playoffs 11 years, won a Super Bowl and went to another.

And I am pretty sure that had nothing to do with depth at the QB position.

Outside of backups that turned out to be "elite" HOF QBs (Brady and Warner) when was the last time a team lost their starter and a backup led that team to a Super Bowl?

Here is the list of starting QBs over the past 20 years that won the Super Bowl:

E. Manning, Rodgers, Brees, Roethlisberger, E. Manning, P. Manning, Roethlisberger, Brady, Brady, B. Johnson, Brady, Dilfer, Warner, Elway, Elway, Favre, Aikman, Young, Aikman, Aikman.

All these teams had nothing to do with having depth at QB. The only two teams who didn't have a HOF or future HOF QB was Johnson (who threw 22 TD 6 int the year TB won the SB) and Dilfer, but both of the those teams had the #1 defense in the NFL that year.

Championship teams are built around elite QBs who are healthy, not teams with QB depth. The rare exception are teams that are so good on defense they can overcome mediocre QB play (Dilfer), but that is the rare exception and not the norm.

WoodStrock got us to one Superbowl. The same as Marino.

I think it's pretty clear it's been David thus far, I think the only reason the staff is hesitating is because Matt played so well down the stretch last season, so they don't want to count him out so early. From everything I have read and seen though David has been playing the best in practice.

I don't care about practice. It would be unfair to name a starter over Moore before some serious preseason action because even the last regime admitted that Moore wasn't a great practice player but was a gamer, as evidenced by him being pretty much the top QB in the NFL in preseason and a highly rated one in the regular season as well.
