It's Only Happened ONCE!
Player: WR DeVante Parker
2015 stats: 26 receptions, 494 yards, three touchdowns
Projected over/under: 1,000 yards
Reason for hope: Parker was on a tear over the final six weeks of last season; he recorded 445 of his 494 receiving yards during that span. That has sparked NFL pundits and fantasy experts to expect plenty from the former first-round pick in year two.
Parker has dynamic talent. He has good size, strong hands, attacks the ball even while covered and runs faster than his size would indicate. Parker averaged 19 yards per reception as a rookie last season. That means he doesn’t need 80 to 90 receptions to get to 1,000 yards. Parker is Miami’s big-play complement to possession receiver Jarvis Landry and could potentially hit the 1,000-yard mark if he registers 60 receptions or more.
Reason for concern: Talent isn’t an issue for Parker, but health is a concern. Miami’s first-round pick had dealt with lingering issues after breaking a bone in his left foot at Louisville in 2014; he had surgery last summer in hopes of minimizing chances of a recurrence.
It took Parker about half of last season to feel fully confident in his foot, and that’s when his debut year began to take off. Parker said his foot is no longer a concern. However, the Dolphins held him out of two organized team activity practices that were open to the media, and head coach Adam Gase said the team wants to be extra cautious with Parker.
Here is another question: Do the Dolphins have enough footballs to go around? Leading receiver Landry is going to get the most opportunities, and don’t forget aboutKenny Stills, rookie Leonte Carroo and the running game. Parker must make the most of his opportunities this season.
