.......Jeff Ireland is kept. The way it looks and sounds right now, Ireland has a good chance of being retained.

Justin from Waterloo, Iowa, wants to know if general manager Jeff Ireland is on the hot seat in Miami as well.

Walker:
The coach is usually the first person to go in the NFL. So, naturally, that gives Ireland a better chance to survive a bad season. His seat is not as hot as Sparano's. I'm sure behind closed doors he can make the case that Miami has talented players. I don't think many would argue against that point. But everyone is at risk if the team keeps losing. Also, a lot depends on what level coach the Dolphins would look for. Top-shelf names like Bill Cowher and Jon Gruden, for example, probably want complete control. I don't see Cowher or Gruden coming out of retirement to take orders from Ireland. They can wait for better opportunities. At the very least, a big name may want to bring in their own GM they're more comfortable with.

If this team ends up in the 2-14/5-11 range, I don't see Ross actually deciding to keep Ireland over getting guys like Gruden or Cowher

I want Ireland to go also but if he stays I could see Ryan from Dallas or Chud from Carolina.

If Cowher (my 1st choice) , Gruden or Fisher come you KNOW they'll demand thier own guy as GM or want both titles.

I'm not a fan of full authority coaches. I don't think that works anymore and I'm not sure how many coaches have both hats. I'm not for keeping Ireland necessarily though.

Suck for Luck.. I think Ross would like to keep Ireland and Nolan but if we chase a big name coach which I think he will they will then the house will have to be cleaned, but I dont want any coach to really have total control either.

Ireland has missed half the time with the higher picks. I just don't see many pro bowl players on the roster or in the wings.
If we land Cowher, Gruden or Fisher, give them full authority. The tri-fecta model has been a failure for this team.

If Cowher took the job, I think there is a great chance Nolan would be retained. Cowher would also attract many top level assistant coaches...the kind that have been scarce around here since Shula and Jimmy.
PP guys are a dime a dozen, quality head coaches are in short supply. Give Cowher a private jet and a key to the city for cripes sake.

Fisher or Dungy are better options than cowher and gruden. gruden had great moments in tampa and a lousy time in oakland, cowher had cordell stewart and Odonnell as QBs and refused to change i dont know if he understands the QB position at all , and besides let me say that Pitt won 2 of the most controversial SB in history making the NFL look like boxing .

why not chad pennington as assistant head coach ? he can be a great coach in the future

well im kind of 50/50 on Ireland being fired but we better not end up signing a lesser coach to keep him.

There is absolutely no reason to keep Ireland at the expense of a top tier HC. He hasn't done anything to deserve that. If Ross is this attached to Ireland then he is deep in a con.
