I think Zach is, as we all know, a top tier talent in the right scheme.....with top tier risk for the buyer. He is a risk for obvious reasons. I don't really see him fitting in as a every down LB in New England, but who knows with those guys. He is an average blitzer, if not below average. Zach would fit great in their coverage schemes though.

Anyway, I really like Karlos Dansby and his Parcells type size. He is a gamer and makes plays. Suggs is better than Briggs IMO, (I am probably alone on this) for many reasons. Anyway, maybe Parcells will go younger in The LB position, than expensive guys nearing maximum value. If I was Jeff Ireland, I would use the draft early 3rd( on a LB ) and free agency for another LB to get ..At the least Dansby. Too bad Porter costs so much. He should re-structure as he is tying up funds at a position that could come cheaper this year to obtain. I will look to evaluate the free agents and the draft at the front seven position for some notes if anyone is interested. This was just " top of my mind" discussion and I'll follow up later.

yes, as soon as I say that they "tag" him................I still have plent of notes I will rifle through over the week.

My daughter tackles pretty good, but I don't want her to drop out of school at six to go to the combine........I think her invitation is in the mailbox.

I think Briggs and Calvin Pace will be guys they look at.

Keith Adams is a 3-4 guy who can play ST's, as is Kevin Bentley. But I think Briggs might be a guy they dip for.

Thanks for the contribution. I hope as the off season goes on you will talk about other areas as well.

Would they sign Pace and draft Long?

You can't deny Briggs' potential presence in the locker room. Channing Crowder is already lock-and-step with him, employing Briggs' "run like hell" technique to avoid a DUI.

I would be ESTATIC if our big defensive FA's included Pace and Bentley. I think those are two that would drastically change our talent level without dipping into cap space very much.

I will be very curious to see if the Skins go after Briggs. Maybe there is still some money under the couch cushion.

The only thing about Pace is "what are you going to use him for?"

Only insiders know what Miami's scheme will actually be, we have an idea from Parcells recent years, but still it isn't definitive with a new team, staff and personnel. Right now, as a fan, it is wait and see.
Pace's talent isn't really refined, as his role has changed so much. I would really have to look at film on him to see if he can play pass defense or be better at end. I think he is a better linebacker for sure, with his ability to chase people down and playing better when he isn't( fingers down on the line. ) He has a burst, isn't inconsistant playing up and the money will play a factor, but with Porter/Crowder/Pace in the mix.....the missing link would be a another motor for coverage in blitz packages. Can Pace defend the pass ?Pace's stats say yes, but I am not really convinced. I reserve judgement on his pass defense skills until I can review more, and I will! The Giants set the tone on defense for a Champion model " get after the "QB" so, My guess is Miami isn't going after a QB, but will want to chase down a Qb on defense and will look to trade down and go all D.......we'll see what changes. Beck can be very good, don't even look at last years stats. Beck can play and play well.......he had a terrible set of circumstances to play under, terrible. He was our 2nd rated QB on the board by 13pts. thats nothing. We had him rated higher than Quinn. Much higher

Excellent. Thanks for the thoughtfull post...and of course for the positives on Beck. I think he is really the lynchpin for our success

GuyS DOES everyone forget how his tenure in Dallas started? He tried to run a 4 3 the first year and did not like it. if i Remember right he later said that was a mistake and next time he would just take the lumps right away. He just did not believe in that defense.

I really hope we emphasize the LOS this offseason.

I'd rather have solid gold on the OL and front seven and refried beans at every position not named QB than the other way around. I think we're rightfully leery of giving big money to over 30s like Faneca. But I'm starting to warm up to it. Guards tend to be able to sustain longer than most positions. I'd love to see Faneca and Flozell Adams together for a couple of seasons.

Then again, the Steelers are one of those franchises that seems to let a guy go a year early rather than a year late. They don't seem to get it wrong very often. It gives you pause.

Finally, if Beck was 13 points higher than the next guy, where did you guys project Quinn? Was he the #3? What about Ginn?

First, the Steelers are one of the best teams, always, in the draft. They have had a great coach for years that was part of the evalution process.Longevity, something Miami has been lacking. Hopefully, Miami starts to build wisely in the draft and not try to hit a homerun with risky picks. Of course, thats not Parcells way and he is not media driven. Ireland and his system of evaluating is very good.
Quinn was third in our point system, but a player we had on our board in yellow. Not selecting. We removed him. The biggest question was his accuracy for our system. Talk to 10 people out of the media that aren't commentators, people that actually study the QB position and Quinn had the mind, ethic and all the upside needed to be a safe productive Qb, but not the pro type throws(anticipation) that were accurate.....out of those 10, seven would take Beck.
Ginn was a great pick. At nine, I doubt it for me, high risk/high reward. It really depends on getting him in the right set of circumstances. What I mean by that is give him two years as a receiver with great coaching and he will be very good. Speed kills, but route running....he is raw. He will learn and he will be very good. We had him valued 4th at his position. It went....Calvin J./ Dwayne B/Anthony G.( great route runner)/Ted G.

I am sorry for any poor spelling....I have always been a math guy and hired a receptionist to correct typo's. She still is employed, but not with me.

Very interesting stuff.

Regarding Briggs, where does he fit in a 3-4? I don't know, I feel like he might be a product of that system. What are some reasons why Parcells would pursue him?

Let assume we're set on Chris Long. How would you proceed at the position?

OT: Is Daniel Snyder still as meddlesome as the general public thinks he is? We're ones to talk, but what was up with that coaching search? And most importantly, what did you guys do between picks 6 and 143?
