A league source said the Dolphins were insistent on including the offset language only as a matter of principle, and not because of anything to do with Tannehill’s potential. According to the source, the Dolphins made it an organizational policy in 2010 to include offset language in every free agent contract, and every player signed by the Dolphins since then – Brandon Marshall, Reggie Bush, Matt Moore, Richard Marshall – has offset language in his contract (only Karlos Dansby, signed in 2010, is the only one who does not have offset language in his contract).

Just shows that anyone who claimed the Dolphins were "disappointed" with Tannehill or thought he could be a bust for having offest language forced on him, jumped the gun. Also those calling the Dolphins front office names, especially Ireland and Aponte, had no idea what was really going on. Those who used derogatory terms and the word "retarded" should be ashamed of themselevs. The Dolphins have a policy(which is one that is team cap friendly) and they stuck to it and got what they wanted. They should applauded.

Great post Nub. Good info. Glad to see we are trying to do a better job of managing the cap.

well at least it wasn't a think where they were protecting themselves from him possibly busting... it's comforting to know it's been a policy with all of thier contracts.

As the article stated...not EVERY Dolphins contract included off-set language. (Dansby) :D

Here is what Tannehill’s contract should have looked like:
Signing bonus: $7.653 million
2012 base salary: $390,000
2013 base salary: $965,841
2014 base salary: $1.541 million
2015 base salary: $2.117 million

Instead, here’s what the Dolphins and Tannehill agreed to:
Signing bonus: $7.653 million
2012 salary: $390,000 base
2013 salary: $480,000 base + $485,841 bonus if he is on the roster the 6th day of training camp
2014 salary: $570,000 base + $971,682 bonus if he is on the roster the 6th day of training camp
2015 salary: $660,000 base + $1.457 million bonus if he is on the roster the 6th day of training camp

Hence why I said "since Brandon Marshall". That trade can after Dansby signed. Still though, it is a policy that has been in place since April of 2010.

As usual Nubs, you come up with the info. Glad to see the team stick to it's policies.

Damn Nub,

Whatever they are paying you I think you deserve a raise! Putting up with these Jeff Ireland and Aponte are idiot posters can't be easy....

God it still wont please all the haters on this board.................

Good post nubs still will not stop the Ireland bashing at every chance I am afraid but what the heck huh?

Like I said in another thread just wait until Tanne throws his first INT...this place will go mad!!!

Anyone who tries to paint "policy" as something uncontrollable by the people who set the policy, therefore absolving the decision makers of their decisions to adhere to, set, unset or ignore said policy, should be ashamed of themselves, for they have no idea what is really going on.

Like I stated in an earlier post this offset language is becoming the norm in the NFL. In 5 years from now every NFL contract will contain it.
The Fins are on the leading edge.

So the Dolphins have a cap friendly policy and yet we've still been among the highest paying teams in the league with pathetic results. And we're supposed to applaud this? And then we wonder why the good free agents sign elsewhere. Because we're the "leading edge" of dumb policies that clearly aren't working. I'll continue on calling the FO idiots until they prove they're not idiots by the product on the field, but thanks anyways.

I was very critical of Ireland and Aponte and how they handled the situation based on the history they have written. Congrats to them for resolving it and being very creative in doing so.

Doesn't mean I won't continue to be critical when I see something I don't like or disagree with.

I don't care, offset language or not they got him signed by the second day so no big deal to me. If it had dragged on then I would have been screaming but it didn't and now the kid can practice and hopefully stop this QB carousel by working his way into the starting roll.
