Every Dolphins contract since Brandon Marshall has included offset language

Because we're the "leading edge" of dumb policies that clearly aren't working.

Look the owners have the players where they want them. They can change any policy they want and the players will have to follow along eventually.
If they don't they will be replaced with an inexpensive rookie. That is just the way it works.

As far as it not working it has a little more to do with Tom Brady being on the Patriots team for more than a decade and being the best qb in football and being in our division.

So the Dolphins have a cap friendly policy and yet we've still been among the highest paying teams in the league with pathetic results. And we're supposed to applaud this? And then we wonder why the good free agents sign elsewhere. Because we're the "leading edge" of dumb policies that clearly aren't working. I'll continue on calling the FO idiots until they prove they're not idiots by the product on the field, but thanks anyways.
The cap has been improving since 2010 and next year they are currently scheduled to have $50+ million in cap space. Seems tome these policies are clearly working.

If they doubled my pay here I would still be at $0. I do it for the love of the Dolphins. :)

Come on! We all love the Dolphins. But your telling me you aren't greasing a-little of the top? Promise I wont tell:d-day:

a) 10k-25k
b) 25k-50k
c) 50k+

Personally I think it's choice C.

Not trying to downplay their work but you have some huge contracts expiring the nd of this year that were brought in the first two years of Parcells. That was a huge roster turnover and serves as a reason why there is so much available. Additionally, a large majority will be eaten up resigning their own guys.

Cap space is only a good thing if your team is good. The team has been getting cheaper since 2010 but it's also technically been getting less effective at winning football games. They were 7-9 in 2010 and 6-10 in 2011. What will we be this year? Tune in to find out, but Vegas thinks under 7 wins.

Hard to know where we're at as far as need since those years we had tony "never had a draft pick he couldn't ruin" sparano coaching the team.

They have space because of expiring contracts. Not because of some policies that haven't worked the first few years.

Hence why I said "since Brandon Marshall". That trade can after Dansby signed. Still though, it is a policy that has been in place since April of 2010.

And Apante was hired in Feb 2010 see any correlation?

Yeah the policies are working because the players they have brought in are not getting resigned. Look at the number of high picks that have been cut. If those weren't bust that cap space is no where near 50mil.

Lets face it this team has been .500 for most of the decade. Slighty over and under of that figure. Hence why so many on this board me inclued have called Miami mediocre the last 10 years. The melee of the cap space and team performances can be dated back to Waanstedt/Speilman. Some have argued since Shula.

As much as folk cast Ireland as the devil, Miami has not won a SuperBowl since 1973. I assume that's Ireland's fault too going by some folks train of thought?

Expiring contracts means players are lasting the length of their deals and Miami is not having to cut those players early and eat the all the dead money. Miami has contracts expire every year, granted there are a few more than usual in 2013, but the Dolphins sill are in great shape. I remember not real long ago when Miami had to cut players in February just to get under the league cap limit each year. Miami goes from being in cap hell to having some of the most room in the league starting in 2013. You of all people should be happy because according to you the current roster is just full of garbage to mediocre players, so who cares if their contracts expire after this season? Right?

If they re-sign Jake Long(I expect they will), he will likely have a cap hit between $12 million and $15 million in 2013. For comparison Joe Thomas signed an extension with the Browns last year and his cap hit this season is $11.9 million. So even after the likely re-signing of Long the Dolphins will likely still have over $40 million in cap space. I would assume Randy Starks and Brandon Fields get re-signed. Maybe Reggie Bush, Sean Smith, Chris Clemons and Brian Hartline and a handful of others. In the end, Miami probably will still have somewhere between $20-25 million to spend at the start of free agency, compared to the $11 million they had last year. On top of that, Miami currently has around $4.5 million in space this season and if that stays roughly the same, they can carry that over to next year. Which means even after re-signing some of the major players they could still have between $25-30 million.

Just shows that anyone who claimed the Dolphins were "disappointed" with Tannehill or thought he could be a bust for having offest language forced on him, jumped the gun. Also those calling the Dolphins front office names, especially Ireland and Aponte, had no idea what was really going on. Those who used derogatory terms and the word "retarded" should be ashamed of themselevs. The Dolphins have a policy(which is one that is team cap friendly) and they stuck to it and got what they wanted. They should applauded.
I am not one that called it retarded. I just believe it is an outdated policy and adds to the stigma that the Dolphins are not a "friendly" franchise to work for. Eight of the top ten picks did not have the offset language Miami and Buffalo, thats the way the league is moving. Its just like when Ireland stated "i am not a recruiter" the fact of the matter is in todays free agency the GM does recruit. I still have my concerns about him. You dont have to be a total homer to be a fan.

Great shape now, after a few years of being in bad shape with the policy. After we re-sign some players, and the cycle of bad signings continue it will be the same old again.

So: Jeff Ireland and his employee's create a policy and stand behind it refusing to give in. Unless, you know, they do give in such as with Dansby. But then the policy is back up in full force! Until they decide to take it down again. But they wont this time! And its simply not their fault if players cant figure that out!

Where is this cap friendly deal that everyone keeps talking about? This only becomes better for the Dolphins if Tannehill is no longer on the roster. Why in gods name should we applaud Tannehill busting? Will anyone be praising Ireland for saving a few bucks if the former 8th overall pick sucks?
