Summation:

*promoted Matt Burke to defensive coordinator. Points allowed went from 23.7 ppg to 24.6 ppg (18th to 28th)*

*Timmons signed for 11million for two years, goes AWOL. There’s a reason Pittsburgh didn’t bring him back. His AWOL remains his most impactful play for Miami all season*

*julius Thomas 2 bad years in Jacksonville weren’t a fluke, force feeding of Thomas by Gase only highlighted the whiff*

*jay cutler signed for 10million, he was mediocre for 12 years, why would anything be different?*

*tunsil moves from guard to LT, among frequent struggles are his league high 9 pre-snap penalties*

*kiko moved from middle to outside, torched by every TE played. Could have played for 4million this year but given 18.5 million in guarantees on new deal for some reason*

*branch given 24 million for 4 sacks. That’s all he averages over 6 seasons.*

*ajayi traded. Yes drake emerged but Ajayi and drake should be a nice combo*

If you haven’t stop reading by now in tears of rage I would also add giving McDonald a new contract before playing a meaningful minute for Miami looks like a mistake too since he’s basically another SS. Then there’s the failure to address the guard situation seriously. FO doing what so many previous regimes have done: mistake after mistake.

Yeah, it looks even more damning in print.

If you're going to do this you have to add the draft also... which was pretty good imo.

Don't agree with this one. That "combo" was never going to happen because Ajayi didn't want anyone else getting reps during the game. It's why it never happened while Ajayi was here and why Drake was used so sparingly and Williams for that matter. Those guys didn't see the field much because Ajayi wanted his numbers. Even when the team was winning he would pout if he didn't get enough carries. Ajayi was a selfish player here and I think the Dolphins will benefit in the long run from this trade...regardless of who we get with the pick we got for him.

I agree I don’t miss Ajayi. Drake is an all around better weapon imo

We will probably never get to know exactly which of these decisions were pushed by Gase or whether they were GM/VP decisions. What we DO know is that Gase had been given A LOT of say on personnel, and the FO did whatever he wanted/asked in many respects. I think if anything, this list shows that Gase should perhaps not have been given as much say-so as he has on personnel. There are at least three major decisions (Cutler, Thomas, Ajayi) that are definitely on him. The only one I support is Ajayi - both for pouty/cancer reasons and for glaring deficiencies in blitz pickup and catching out of the backfield. Still think a smart OC could have worked out a way to deal with the latter two issues.

The Kiko, Branch, McDonald, and Timmons deals seem more like TBum. The McDonald deal might end up working out for us if the DC (hopefully not Burke) can figure out how to use 2 SSs effectively. Dude's a good player.

the Kiko thing is still shocking. He could have played for $4M this year? wow

I think Drake has been a lucky accident. They wouldn't get him many touches a game before. When Ajayi was traded Williams was the starter. They only saw Drake shine when they had to play him. Oh, and how did we just figure out Jakeem Grant could play?

You want to give T-Bum and Grier more say in personnel decisions? That would be a colossal mistake!

Left tackle is Tunsil’s natural position and his FUTURE. He needs to clean up a few things, but placing him at G would have delayed his development.
Branch has been battling through injury, I believe.
The Cutler signing was due to the fact that the starting QB was lost for the year due to injury. Starting caliber QBs don’t grow on trees and it’s hard to grab one right before the season starts. As Mandich used to say “this ain’t no beauty contest”.
Unlikely Kapaernick wouldn’t have fared much better. He would have had his share of good games and bad games, while alienating much of the fan base with his pro Castro views. This is not a playoff team with Kapaernick.
I agree on the Kiko deal. Premature and too expensive.
