"This is Joey's chance to prove himself" :rolleyes2

You know, this same basic thread has come up in one form or another since the Minn. game (and really since his first start), yet despite winning the last three where it was "Joey's big chance" to show us what he's got, some fans are still requiring him to "prove himself".

He already has. He has shown us everything we need to know. He has his warts, but he also has some really good qualities. Just accept him for what he is and enjoy the fact that the entire team has shown improvement since he was named the starter. Trying to "prove himself" is what got him into trouble in Detroit.

Are some of you so anxious to see him fail that you can't simply accept him for what he is and enjoy the wins?

agreed....joey should not have to prove himself this game cause he aready has....but some finfans think that you sayin he proved himself means you sayin he is a great qb and that he the starter next year sooo watch out for that cause it might get messing

agreed. joey will continue to be a poor QB

I can definitely enjoy the wins - but can you please explain what Joey did to win this game from this series forward? He hurried up and got off the field so the defense could have more time to score?

Um, not really. This defense he faces this week is legit. Ronnie is out, and that leaves the game in his hands basically. This really is Joey's make or break game coming up. You can reason to me that Minny and Detriot were but, Detriot as bad as he had there IS AN AWFUL TEAM WITH AN AWFUL DEFENSE and Minny has a CRAPPY pass defense. Jax, however, has an awesome pass D coupled with a ferocious run D.

the only thread I have been noticing that won't go away is the thing about us making the playoffs. which isn't a bad thing but it gets boring.

I think the issue here is there's quite a lot of disagreement as to what he actually is.

Nutshell.

I actually think he's already proven what he is-

Depending on the basis a person is gradeing on.

Let's just hope Joey can continue to make more positive plays than negative plays. The only thing "he needs to prove" is that he can finally eliminate that glaring turnover that he has committed in EVERY game.

Except the KC game. But he did try to throw one or two in that game, Bernard Pollard and Pat Surtain just couldn't come down with them. :)

I think Joey is as good as he ever will be, frankly. He's not a rookie, he hasn't been sitting on the bench. He can win with a good team around him, but he's not a QB who will take over the game and win it for you. He's just not good enough for that.
We don't have that sort of QB on our roster, period.

Every game is make or break. Every team in the NFL is tough, not just the ones with winning records. Downplaying victories because of perceived strength of the opponent or who led the offense to the win is foolishness.

Ronnie Brown's involvement in the Vikings game was actually NEGATIVE. Joey threw the ball on virtually every down. I don't care how bad your pass D is, when you know what's coming and blitz every down because of it, it isn't easy to move the ball.

You don't have to like Harrington, but if you don't, why keep posting his need to "prove" himself? You've already decided what he is, just like everyone else has. All I'm saying is why not just be glad we are doing what it takes to win, and Joey has helped us do that. He has been a stabilizing force for this offense. He isn't perfect, but he has relieved a lot of pressure from the OL, and the ground and passing game are greatly improved from what they were. There is a confidence creeping in, and that isn't something that came from Culpepper. Watch tape of the Detroit game, and suddenly all the comments about how Harrington isn't really part of the team seem to look kind of foolish. I saw most of the offense being very congratulatory to him on the sidelines.

Stop expecting Harrington to be Marino. Stop looking for him to "prove" himself. He is what he is, and for once, we aren't tied to our QB deep into the future...we can get out of this if needs be. We are in a good situation here...why not accept that and just support the team?

Every week is an opportunity to "prove" yourself if you're at the bottom looking up. The people saying he could prove himself have a point. Detroit was Detroit, and color me not surprised that he had his best game of the year against them. Minnesota's pass D was horrible. We head into this game against a good D with Sammy Morris and Travis Minor at tailback.

If Joey wants to step up and be something he's not been before, this game is as good an opportunity as he'll have. So is the next game. And the game after that.
