What other positions in order of your opinion should we also try to upgrade...

i would like to see ILB strengthened even the backup depth then Fs, I like Clemons but again either a replacement or backup to groom as...

then te continue to grow that area of offensive output and get on same page as the better teams in the league.

then corners and DT's build depth and strong rotations

ol as stated
2 new lb'ers
safety
cb
dt
return man is also needed big time, thigpen is awful
rb AND fb
at least one more wr but with gibson and maybe binns coming back, maybe not

Wheeler needs to go or restructure that contract for backup money and play rotation. I think ellerbe can work out but needs more support alongside...otherwise we are on the same page

big tall TE. the kid from Washington would be nice.

bigger RB. Ben Tate type or himself. word is he is out of Houston.

to those who say LB, I don't disagree but I would move Jordan to Olb (not perm position but flexed), and misi to wheeler's position. Jenkins will move into PT next year.

Safety. but wonder if Thomas, the newbie become our next Paterson.

yes, and DT.

I'll say it again. I know I sound like a broken record but

OL
LB
OL
LB
OL
LB
OL
LB

definitely agree finfan54 about moving jordan to strong side backer, put misi in the middle and ellerbee on the weakside. since we cant cut wheeler till 2015 make him a special seat on the bench and make sure he never leaves it .

Have you ever considered working for Jeff Ireland. I think that you've nailed it. But if we are prioritizing, the O-line needs are 1, 2 and 3.

You want misi covering backs and tightends? I say draft a mlb in the second round OL in the first

Need beasts everywhere.
Since this is a passing team, we need beasts at receiving position the most. That is a priority.
Once Soliai and Starks are gone, we need DTs in a bad way.

Position doesn't really matter. We need an influx of great players, even if they are replacing guys who are considered our top rated players. I don't care about salary cap either. Our lack of special players is the regulator. If all we do is plug in a couple of moderately talented guys at our weakest positions, then other areas naturally regress and overall we aren't any better off than we are now.

Jeff Ireland's inability to identify great talent is stagnating this franchise. And when we have truly great players, there won't be any argument, any need for stats or dozens of threads. Nobody was debating Paul Warfield's level.

my two big FA's would be KC LT and Ben Tate or someone his caliber.

if I could wave my magic wand in draft, I would trade down w/ san fran and get the TE. with two 2nds's I would get my RT and G late 2nd in Steen. Linder is another G I like in 4th or 5th rd. OL done. I like the tackle depth in this draft too. there are many other good OL in this draft at both positions.

find any LB and DT steal you can in mid rounds.

actually? yes. just not deep downfield for TE's.

misi blew up patriots Rb's in passing game.

and nothing is ever easily done....the stars need to align. so its all fantasyland.

I would like to find a replacement for Jones. The guy has been every bit as awful as our new linebackers yet very few people on this site complain about him. He is a big liability in our secondary.

The defense, as it stands, is doing a pretty good job. The new LB's, as they stand and with all their faults, are doing well enough as a part of the defense that we have been excellent against the pass and excellent in points against (the most important defensive stat). Our defense is a solid unit and both of those much maligned LB's are the guys playing the most snaps.

Have they been great individually? Of course not, especially Wheeler - when he makes a mistake, it is amplified. Are we significantly worse against the run? Yeah, definitely, and the two new LB's are a major part why. But we're also much better at getting stops and we are much better against the pass... and we are better at points given up. Both guys have been consistent enough that they have been on the field more than anyone on our defense, a defense that is ranked 8th in points allowed.

Even if we changed nothing to the defense (meaning we hypothetically kept all the same players), I would expect the team to be improved next season with better/more depth at CB and more familiarity with our system/players for both Wheeler/Ellerbe. I expect Wheeler and Ellerbe to get better next season.

Our biggest concerns are on offense... we need a whole new OL, at least 1 new RB, a FB, and maybe 1 more TE. Considering we are going to need 3-5 starters for just the offensive end, that's a lot to address in and of itself. Our offense is ranked in the bottom 15 in almost every single meaningful statistic. We can't sustain drives, we cant run the ball, we cant protect the quarterback, and most importantly of all, we struggle to score points. We have a lot to address on the offensive side of things.
