Now,in the age of the INTERNET,blog and countless number of other media outlets,Vontae Davis was one of the biggest loser on draft day.The Miami Dolphins was a big winner on draft day by selecting Davis in the first round. After rumor of failing a drug test ,and having off the field issues Vontae Davis drop all the way down to the 25 pick in the
Draft. At the end of the college football season Davis was projected as a top 10 pick .Who's responsible for spreading such rumor costing players millions and millions
of dollars.I said it before Davis is suffering for what his brother Vernon
have done or not done in San Francisco 49er
.By the way Davis has never fail a drug test ,and was never suspended for a game .Davis was pull for 4 plays
as a motivational tool by his College coach Ron Zook.(don't believe me listen to Ron Zook interview

Once again the Miami Dolphins has benefit from draft day rumors.
If you remember Dan Marino was rumor of drug uses
before the 83 draft .This also benefit the Dolphins,
Vontae now has a spotlight on his behavior off the field .
On field ,there no doubt the coaches and Veteran will keep any signs
of prima Donna in line on the field.Even if, it not a problem

hey I'm bored.....

I really believe Miami got a great pick with Davis. You see almost every year teams (likely) towards the bottom of the draft start rumors about talented players hoping those players will drop into pickable positions. Davis has the backing of both Illinois coach Ron Zook AND our own Jeff Ireland when it comes to character concerns. The failed drug test was proved false. I think, having heard Vontae refer to himself in the 3rd person, that Davis may be a little full of himself. However, given the people who support him strongly, I think the character concerns are a nonissue. By all accounts, he is a gym rat willing to put in the time to make himself a better player. I believe Miami got a steal at #25. Hopefully he lives up to his talent level and becomes the player I believe he can be:up:

I'm very happy with the pick. He's got to work on some of his fundamentals to be great at the NFL level, but I think we got an undeniable physical talent.

DAMN!!! I heard he had the best potential of any player in the draft to be a shutdown corner...

LIES! ALL LIES!!!!!

Agreed. His physique is impressive. To bench at the combine what he did (was it 21 times at 225?) as a corner is almost unreal, especially because some linemen dont even bench that much. He's also in the upper echelon of this years corners in the speed department. With his blend of size, speed, and strength he has the makings of an elite corner, he just needs to be more consistent and work hard at technique (like you mentioned). Add Smith to the mix and you have receivers who are big, strong, and fast enough to handle the improved breed of athletes playing receiver in the league. Hopefully both live up to their potential. We could be set for the next 5-10 years at CB if this is the case. It's been a long time since we had a good corner duo like Madison/Surtain.

Ron Zook believes in Davis more than anyone in the world. He wouldn't have come to his defense like this in the media if the BS about Davis was true.

But, Davis, like his brother, is a little bit of a drama queen. But if he can stay healthy and productive, unlike his brother, then we've got a great player.

I love Vontae Davis, but let's not invest too much in Ron Zook's spirited defense. Zook has to show his existing players and recruits that he isn't going to throw them under the bus and that he will support them no matter what.

Deion Sanders used to refer to himself in the 3rd person, Primetime this n that, Primetimes house etc etc... never did him any harm.

Good example, though I never implied that being into oneself is a huge deal. Personally I think its just dumb to refer to yourself in the 3rd person (ala Deion and now Vontae), BUT he isn't in the NFL to be part of a social club. Even if he was a Diva, Deion produced big time, and so long as Vontae works hard and gets better fundamentally he should join the upper echelon of CB's in the NFL. The kid has all the talent in the world and sometimes a little swagger goes a long way, especially at CB. I think a best case scenario has Davis becoming an elite corner, while at worse I think he might turn into DeAngelo Hall (which isn't totally terrible, as he's still a pretty good CB, but he could be a lot better given his natural ability)... overall, he doesn't have the off-field character concerns that are a major red flag, I just hope he uses his confidence to his benefit and not let it go to his head.
