Mike Wallace hasn’t been in Minnesota very long, but he already has decided he’s more “accustomed” to it than he felt in Miami.
According to ESPN.com, Wallace said he’s beginning to settle in with the Vikings and QB Teddy Bridgewater.
“I think it’s more so (like) my first four years,” Wallace said. “It’s a vertical offense, (rather) than a short, West Coast offense. You go down the field a lot more here, more what I’m accustomed to.”
It’s no coincidence that Wallace was dividing his career between his first four seasons and the past two. The first four were in Pittsburgh, where he had 4,042 yards and 32 touchdowns, compared to the two most recent seasons in Miami, when he had 1,792 and 15 TDs. For perspective, Wallace averaged 64.2 yards per game with the Steelers and 56.0 with the Dolphins. But he caught just 12 passes of 20 or more yards working with Ryan Tannehill, with whom he never developed any chemistry.
Interestingly enough, when Tannehill was asked about his chemistry with rookie first-round draft pick DeVante Parker on Tuesday, he described it as “great” — a word he probably never used when addressing his partnership with Wallace.
For what it’s worth, word is Wallace and Bridgewater have devoted extra time in practice to develop chemistry.
