RW is one of the few athletes that is a straight shooter 24/7/365. If you need to be patronized, mollycoddled, or have your ego stroked by NFL personalities go listen to Tomlin or Tebow.

I honestly wouldn't blame Ireland if he issued a statement telling everyone in the media, along with all the people bad-mouthing him, to go **** themselves at this point. I'm not a huge Ireland fan by any means, but the criticism is wayyyyyyy over the top now.

It was a bit of a joke, you know. I love the fact that Ricky is a straight shooter, but can't he have a little mercy on us fans? He has seen first hand what we have to suffer through with this team and he is just piling **** on top of **** at this point. Not cool.

I happened to hear the segment live yesterday while returning from Shorty's. IMO, the most interesting and perceptive comment that Ricky made is missing from the article.
After Ricky twice used the unflattering description of Ireland, Sid Rosenberg asked him to elaborate, to assess why Ireland acts as he does in a football realm. Two seasons ago Ricky made weekly appearances with Sid during the football season and Ricky was surprisingly astute toward human nature. Sid picked up on that quickly and it became a regular feature of their chats.
In this case, Ricky said people who have had a mentor tend to emulate that person's style, even if it doesn't threaten to be appropriate. That's what Ricky meant in the sentence of the article that reads, Williams suggested that Ireland is trying to effect "the persona that he thinks he has to be."
I couldn't believe the writer let that sentence drift minus reference or explanation. Weak journalism, to put it mildly. Ricky implied that Ireland adopts mentor Parcells' gruff confrontational style even if it doesn't fit and others can see right through it. Ricky and Sid mentioned Parcells at length for the remainder of the segment, with Ricky emphasizing Parcells' people strengths, that he could chew players out but never lose their respect, and follow with a positive vibe later in the same practice.
Ireland follows up with a retreat to his office, the benefit of a doubt of an obscure collegiate placekicker, and a mug that begs to be punched. My words, accurate.

Hey Ricky if you want a friend get a dog.....your GM is not supposed to be your friend. I am glad he asked Bryant whether his mama was a ho, and it's nice to know he speaks his mind and isn't a pushover. But hey it's easy to kick a guy when you are no longer on the team.
