I want to win today, but I'd bet money we don't. First, the game last week was 6-3 until Champ Bailey was hurt. You take a shut-down corner out of the game, and teams have to change their entire defensive scheme. If you can cover the other team's #1 wideout with one guy, then you can stack 8 in the box and shut down the run instead of double covering the #1 wideout with a safety. On top of that, Denver had one or two OTHER corners get hurt after Bailey.

Second, there are a TON of intangibles in the Jets' favor. First, they're at home. Second, they don't want to start the year 0-2 with an embarrassing home loss to us (their archrival) of all teams. Third, they're out to prove to everyone that last week was a fluke and that they're a much better team than they showed last week.

The problem this week is that if we lose, people will say, "well I guess they ARE the same old Dolphins," and they shouldn't. This game should not be as strong a barometer of how good we are -- there are just too many variables going against us here. Of course I'll be delighted if we win, but I'll be pretty surprised too.

Some good points. True, the team that's 0-1 is more desperate and unless they are overmatched (not the case here) they will often win. But today, let's hope our Dolphins are equally intense, not wanting to lose as it they are sick of it from last year!

please dont even watch the game.
Yeah, that's a good point, because if I don't watch the game, then none of my negative energy will rub off on the team.

Next....

That's a lot harder to do on the road.

I am going to see NEW Dolphins Team...

Thier 11 vs. our 11....Our New Head Coach vs. Herm(Dave 2).
I like my Team Better....

theres gonna be a lot of positive energy as well so maybe that good stuff will be able to bring you back up. after last season we all need resurrection of spirit here. they are good points, valid ones that you offered and im really not as superstitious as i used to be.

Look everybody Shouright is on the learning curve. It is almost always better to meet a team after they have had a victory then after they have a defeat. But this is a different Dolphin team then we have had since well about 1974. The fact that Chump Bailey ended up in the MASH unit was due to Saban's philosophy and Ronnie Brown taking care of business. So they put 8 in the box and got arrogant so we put one in the hospital and took care of that. I saw Jake run for his life at least 2 times last week - he ran in a way that neither Pennington nor Fiedler can do. Expect a MASH victim or two from the Jets as well and this much I know: The Jets will play out of their skulls for the game of their lives or they will get mauled!

I like this opinion better even though you both have good points. Let them put 8 in the box on the Phins.......dare em'. I think I am going to put on the aqua and coral glasses on this game. I want these boys to go to 2-0 go bad. No matter how things look I hate saying the PHINS are going to lose because I remember the times when you just couldn't say that or you were asking to eat crow. YEAH BABY!!!! Thats the Dolphins I want to see play again. Who knows people.......stranger things have happened.

Good points -- if we can cause some injuries it'll definitely help our chances. I did like the defense's intensity last week. If we can keep that up we may eek out a close one. I'm just not sure the offense can do much without creating a big advantage a la the Bailey injury and the injuries to the other corners. I haven't seen a post all week alluding to the fact that it was 6-3 until he got hurt, and I'm afraid we're all overlooking the fact that this offense was pretty inept last year and attributing last week to Saban and Linehan rather than the injuries in Denver's secondary.

I really agree with most of it, but I'm too much of a homer to say I think we will lose.

I think the Jets are incapable of playing so poorly two weeks in a row, and if people think that was the "real" Jets last week, they are in for a suprise. Like you also said, they have a chip the size of Mexico on their shoulders, and they'll be fighting for their life today.

I think today will be a much harder game than last week. But if we lose, I think some people will start "the sky is falling" threads for the next week, allthough they really should'nt.

I'm a homer, so I think we win a close one
:)

beautiful words. Saban will be trying to beat these guys in every facet of the game. If ours boys can execute today, we will see victory. If we come out and only execute for 30 mins like last week these guys will hand us our <sitting unit> My favorite word; relentless. We were last week and it helped us overcome some dumb mistakes. Saban made a comment this week about the identity of relentlessness and domination is more important than winning at this point and if I once again see my team go for the throat for 60 mins I will be ok with the outcome no matter what it is.

good post and i really hate reconciling myself with any chance the jets have here. maybe we're overplaying it. maybe i am. i expect a win here in all seriousness and while i'd like to see an impressive dolphins victory over the jets, i'd like to see a good game as well. i'm curious to see where we truly are and how deep the game is on both sides our team. the fact that our opponent is NYJ adds a certain level of hype but this game is merely a tool with which to measure any miami improvement.
