Saban wanted to come out of this draft with a hybrid type player that could play linebacker and defensive end. Matt Roth carried a first round grade on a lot of boards. Pro Football Weekley rated him the 37th best player in the draft, and we got him at 46.
What Saban will do with Roth is play him down in the even front and up in the odd front. This guy has a very high motor and is relentless on the field. He's so intense that he ripped Robert Gallery's face mask off in practice while at Iowa.
