Extremely detailed analysis of Tannehill (w/ game pics)

This is the kind of stuff the fantasy nerds can't talk about because it doesn't show up in their little stat sheets and box scores.

It's this type of analysis that more people should engage in. This is good stuff. It's a nice display of critical thinking when it comes to actually evaluating a player's skill set. Instead, we're mostly subjected to situational amateur BS and people who form their talent evaluation on college stats.

The full game against Oklahoma is on Youtube, in case people missed it the first time around. Not a great game for Tannehill, but recommended watching. Especially for those who've seen his highlight videos and can't imagine him doing anything short of the spectacular. I love the pick, but when you watch him make mistakes the wisdom of sitting him for at least half a season becomes undeniable.

The game against Texas last season is an even better example of this, even though it shows Tannehill at the exact opposite of his caricature: making bonehead plays throughout but leading a clutch drive in the final minute to put his team ahead (only to see a last second field goal beat him).

Hmmm...wonder why no one posted ITT?

:idk:

Must have been because there weren't any stats in the OP to tell people how good or bad a player is.

This is brilliant. This is a "good article" - not those two paragraph rink-a-dink recaps on Bleacher Report.

God it's so true. Stats are easy though! College production!

Great read. Can't wait to see this kid develop here. So stoked the phins made the pick. Dolphins will be contenders again.

Incidentally, since we drafted him, I like watching him on Gruden's QB deal even more.

I hope they teach him to slide. I know in one of those examples he scrambles for 4 yards but in watching him he never slides. Kid will take a hit to get extra yards, and I love his heart concerning that, but he need to slide. This is a big boy league and they will take a free shot on a QB any chance they can get.

Excellent analysis, I love how he points out the not so hot stat line against Oklahoma (a much better college talent wise). How do you judge a great player in a college that isn't top notch...you watch them play the best. Lets hope Ryan can take the professional level athletes we give him this year and make a star out of him!!

I think he lost 6 of 7 games to rated teams. He threw 3 interceptions in the 2nd half of at least two games that Texas A&M were leading in. Truth is that he lost as many as he won for them.

He needs a full season sitting that he will not get.
