Extremely detailed analysis of Tannehill (w/ game pics)

I think he lost 6 of 7 games to rated teams. He threw 3 interceptions in the 2nd half of at least two games that Texas A&M were leading in. Truth is that he lost as many as he won for them.

He needs a full season sitting that he will not get.

...in a thread dedicated to actual film breakdown, you're coming in here with college stats? Aren't there 400 threads for that kind of stuff?

He's also the only QB to beat Oklahoma, Texas and Nebraska in the same season.

I have been happy that we selected a first round QB, but I heard a lot of negative press on Tanne. In the local Austin press (not surprising in this UT town). I have seen him play in many games, but I have not seen someone breakdown his skills like this article did. I must admit the kid has a strong set of skills. I have not seen a Starting QB or a prospect for the Dolphins have this many skills since Marino. No one knows the type of QB he will become, but it is hard to imagine that he becomes a bust. He has too many good attributes to believe he will fail completely. Is he an elite QB? I do not know, but I believe he has a good chance of becoming an elite QB.

Excellent analysis...and yes, while he does have some negatives that need to be worked out, I'm convinced with good coaching we can get all those squared away.

We need to bump this thread religiously until people start to understand the proper way to evaluate prospects.

This is a great analysis. Loved the breakdown into stills and diagrams. Finally got a chance to sit down and read the third of the three articles and man am I pumped about this kid. This should be required reading for all current Finheaveners.

The full game against Oklahoma is on Youtube, in case people missed it the first time around. Not a great game for Tannehill, but recommended watching. Especially for those who've seen his highlight videos and can't imagine him doing anything short of the spectacular. I love the pick, but when you watch him make mistakes the wisdom of sitting him for at least half a season becomes undeniable.

The game against Texas last season is an even better example of this, even though it shows Tannehill at the exact opposite of his caricature: making bonehead plays throughout but leading a clutch drive in the final minute to put his team ahead (only to see a last second field goal beat him).

What you point out is two games where his opponent was a SUPERIOR team, and where he was trying to do too much to overcome the deficiency in talent.

I watched a crappy Jay Fiedler beat a far superior Peyton Manning in the playoffs because Fiedler had the better team.

Tannehill is fine and is only going to get better and better....he will start day one.
