One can contest our signings thus far have not been overly "sexy" but they do offer solid contributors and ones in their prime of their careers as well. The only 30+ year old was Ferguson and he was had via trade.
Smiley, when healthy, is going to be a helluva guard for us for his entire 5 year contract. Starks, if he reaches his potential, could be a younger version of Ferguson. Wilford is exactly what you want opposite the slighter, smaller, faster Ted Ginn and will be no worse that a 3rd WR on this team. Tolber, I'm assuming, will be moved inside. Anderson and Ryan are likely core special teamers. And perhaps most importantly, Josh McCown, is seen as Tony Romo-lite.....until the "light" comes on and he harnesses his talent and applies it on the field. At worse, he's a stop-gap until Beck, Ryan or whomever Miami drafts at QB this year is ready to take over.
All in all, we signed 7 FA yesterday all in the primes (or just entering their primes) of their careers. Now let's see how this coaching staff does with them. Certainly, this team is significantly better (and how can it not be?) than it was last year and we're only into day 2 of the '08 off-season.
