You guys think there will be a trend of unusually structured contracts that escalate when the cap goes up a supposed $40 million in 2022? Or possibly a lot of one year deals with wink, wink agreements for 2022? Not sure how open players would be to that sort of thing, but I also don't see how teams and players are gonna most effectively navigate FA under these unusual circumstances.

Absolutely. I expect contracts will be smaller as well.

The best available will get paid and structured like you indicated. But there should be some real bargains.

I hope Miami is patient and don't overpay. But I think the organization sees the opportunity now with Tua on his rookie contract.

Will be an interesting offseason.

Smart agents may well get their players signed to multi year deals but with a cause saying if salary cap goes up by say 10-15% so does their pay packets .

The one that usually get paid, the top of their trade ones, will still get top money. The lesser ones, older ones, etc will be on a long waiting list because I don't think they'll see the payload as much

Interesting idea.

Hadn't considered that type of thing, and have no idea the legality, in terms of contracts.

The second wave FAs will be scrambling to get anything more than league average pay, and the third wave guys will all have to settle for vet minimum.

After the first week of 'free' agency, no one will have any money left.

Not certain legally either especially being out of town. Plenty of incentives put into contracts so they may be able to word it around that way to suit?
