Face It: The 2012 season is hopeless

By trading Brandon Marshall, you abandoned any hope of salvaging the 2012 season. With him, you could've upgraded some positions and worked with your current roster to present a team capable of winning 9-10 games, allowing some hope of playoff contention. Now that you no longer have a true #1 receiver, Pro-Bowl MVP player, your team, no matter what you do in the draft will be worse than it was last September. Even if you got a guy like Blackmon, which we won't, he would take at least a year to be as good as Marshall even if he is capable of ever being that good. Miami traded him for a draft pick that becomes an NFL starter only 30% of the time. Well, 2 of them. 2 players that in all likelihood will not be NFL starting caliber players.

Therefore, the only sober way to look at this draft is to understand that it's a first phase of building a team capable of winning a superbowl, not just scraping for 9-10 wins. Pick up some pieces now, suck this season, and pick up some more, be 8-8 in 2013, then be in position to be the best team in football in 2014.
This is where we're at. I wish it wasn't so, but it really is.

May I borrow your sleeping chamber so that I can wake up in two years instead of wasting my time watching the Dolphins be **** until then?

The posters who all share a particular mindset descended on this thread like a pack of hyenas on a wounded gazelle. Look, the dude's not rooting against the team, he's only suggesting this is a transitional year with limited expectations.

Does all seem to be one way. Marshall I think would be a problem both in the WCO and I think for if you are developing a young QB, which hopefully we are. Can't say the season is hopeless, especially just before the draft, I can understand the OP's sentiment though, this could turn out to be a challenging season, but getting rid of Marshall was the right thing to do imo.

Not trading for him in the first place would have been the right thing to do. This was just trying to limit a mistake. Considering it was Ireland's move to begin with, I really don't buy it when people try to credit him for cashing in an investment that returned a loss.

Was that an Ireland or Parcells move? From the Ireland side, he could have been making the best of someone else's mess.

Not for me. I will always watch every Dolphins game and will always hope for the best. The margin between average and great is not that much in this league and a fast turnaround is entirely possible.

The BMarsh trade was widely considered an Ireland move. All that talk after that Parcells allowed the trade only if Ireland promised to recoup one of the 2nds, hence we had that trade down in the draft.

I think 2012 is going to be a year that will answer many questions. How will Philbin do as a head coach? How will Croyle do as a 1st time D coordinator? How will the current players play in the new schemes? I'm not expecting a SF like turn around due to the division Miami plays in, but I think I think a Cincinnati like year could be the best they can hope for.

If they can lay a solid foundation for 2013 and beyond then 2012 will be a success in my book, regardless of where Miami ends up in the standings

Would imagine you are right given how little BP values WRs, seemed like a good idea at the time!

We went 7-9 then 6-10 with him on the team. Off the field incidents including stabbings and bar fights, on the field problems like personal fouls and dropping touchdowns (a few of which could have won us games) - led the damn league in drops - his impact on the team is overrated. I'm not saying we won't miss his production, but he's no game changer.

what did he do in the probowel ? MVP what our problem is , is that we need a franchise QB and as marshall said a great QB knows where to put the ball so that it is catchable .

a True "#1" and "MVP" type player doesnt drop 5-7 TDs including at least 2 that probably change the outcome of the game, or catch 9 total TDs in 2 whole seasons, lead the league in drops more than once, scream and whine at his QB no matter who it is, and the term "pro-bowl" type player needs to stop being used, with news today that the Pro-Bowl is likely to be cancelled, let alone the players selected usually turn it down and players make it on previous rep and nobody cares about it, the value or calling a player a "pro-bowl" type guy no longer has value and hasnt for a few years now

oh and Marshall "lead" this team to a 7-9 and 6-10 record, so i doubt he makes or breaks "salvaging" anything

JDAM ! That rat !*&^%$# was sandbagging the entire season. I clearly rememeber 4 games where he dropped at least 2 gamed changing passses that were either right on the numbers on in his hands.

Come on man, use a period once in a while. That hurt my half baked brain trying to read that.
