Failure to address key positions is why we will fail!

The cuud'oV list:

Sign vet center from Bears, Pouncy could easly play inside role at guard.
Could have sign Williams.
Could have sign V. Young
Could have sign Taylor Mays
Could have made simple field goals and by 1/1 now
Could have................................I tired already, there's a million possibilities!
This team just needs to simply get it done. Smash mouth football without the Bull!

Smash mouth football does not get it done anymore. Sure if you have a decent lead then yeah, shove it down their throats and eat the clock. Problem is, we need to get that lead first. May sound funny but I believe in my heart we are not that far away on offense. The defense is an entirely different story. Suckiness is prevalent all around the defense at every position imaginable.

Our secondary needs help and i feel the O-line has struggle in the pass protection, we get those two issues solved we will be ok.

Look at the FS position and it tells you all you need to know about their drafting strategy. What has become a critical position to fill as the QB of the defense, they try and do so by finding late round gems. This is as ridiculous as passing on legitimate franchise QBs and settling for other teams garbage or low second rounders.

We have a franchise LT, a franchise QB, what looks like a star RB, some studs on Defense, some great receivers, a franchise center....you guys seems to forget how lacking in talent we were when this regime came in...I wish Ross took that into account too...but unfortunately it seems like our owner's as much of an idiot as most of the fans on this board

Roflmao you people give this regime to much credit! What they did was blow the first pick of the draft, and fill this roster with slow cornfed players! This team is sliding backwards off a cliff, and is no closer to being a playoff contender now then they were when they choked the saints game!

Marino is retired.

If this is true, the entire coaching staff right down to the janitor needs to be fired today. Its literally impossible to go 1-11 at home with all that. A retarded chimp could lead the team you describe to a winning record.

3 positions have become critical in today's NFL.

1. Franchise QB
2. Seam stretching TE
3. Play making FS

Ireland just doesn't get that.

Yep. I go in order of signifigance these days........

1) QB - Obviously
2) A competent HC
3) Guys who can pressure the QB. This is the QBs greatest enemy. And since the QB is the most important position, and someone who can pressure that player is the best defense against the QB, these players are critical.
4) Cover guys - With the rules these days and the many talented receivers in this league, you have to have a multitude of players who can cover. These players work hand in hand with your pass rushers. They help the pass rushers by giving them a split second extra with their ability and the pass rushers help them on some plays by making their jobs easier and getting to the QB early. Your playmaking FS comes in here with his ball hawking abilities. When the QB is pressured, the FS knows where to be to grab that rushed throw.
5) WRs/Seem busting TEs - The QB needs his weapons that he will punish your defense with.

As you can see, nowhere on this list in signifigance is a cornfed LT, RBs, or cornfed DLmen who dont either pressure the QB themselves or take up 2 blockers allowing other defensive players to attack the QB more easily.

The running game in the NFL just isnt nearly as important as it used to be. The only thing the running game is used for(by good teams) these days is to set up big play opportunities on play action, scoring the ball deep in the redzone, and killing the clock when holding a late lead.

Those are all important aspects of the game for sure, but the game is all about scoring points and taking advantage of the rules that allow for explosive passing offenses and hence trying to stop those attacks defensively.

I said after last years draft. We had a chance to get Earl Thomas, a great-play making safety and we ended up trading our pick, just to get a 2nd rd pk, since we didn't have one. Whp did we draft, Jared Odrick...nough said.

If you look at Tunas history on every team he was involved with, QB was never his top priority in drafting, never was and still isn't.

Well except Drew Bledsoe I agee with you, nevertheless that big fat tuna is gone so can we finally draft a top notch QB?? Please?
