I'm about sick and tired of players and fans calling out the Dolphins fan base! While I agree that SOME Miami fans are fairweather, it is just not right to group them ALL into that category. Basically what they're saying is because some fans fail to show up to games, then every Dolphins fan is fairweather including every die-hard on this site. Maybe it's the use of words but to say that Miami has the worst fan base is totally inaccurate. The Dolphins have a great fan base all over the world, and here in Georgia they are the 3rd largest fan based team outside of the Falcons and the Packers. Alot of Dolphins fans have moved out of South Florida (myself included) due to whatever circumstances (mine being the military at the time). That hasn't deterred me from watching my beloved Fins by any means necessary. It hasn't kept me from having a wall o' dolphins in my computer room. I love it when my 2 1/2 year old son calls his grandpa and the 1st thing he says is "Go Miami Dolphins!". He will grow up to be a Miami Dolphins fan outside of Miami, but that doesn't make us or any one of ya'll any less of a fan because we can't be at every game. Many people leave South Florida because the cost of living is high, work changes, and some people don't want to plot hurricanes for the rest of their lives. When we had season tickets, you couldn't pry me out of my seat come heat/torrential downpour or someone coming over the loudspeaker saying I had a bomb under my seat (okay well maybe that is a legitimate reason to get up) but at any rate, I think it's complete b.s. for someone to group all fans together when there may be underlying circumstances. Miami has MANY true/loyal fans, and I say screw anyone who thinks otherwise....sorry for the long post, had to vent!

it's not fair to generalize about any group of people.....but would that stop most around here from calling Jets fans stupid? Or Bills fans ugly (thanks Willis)?

Bottom line is compared to a lot of other markets, Miami fans don't always show up. What else are they going to judge the fanbase on other than empty seats...or seats filled with Jets fans.

It is what it is...not within our control. Might as well rail against the rainy weather in Seattle or the hot summers in South Florida. The fanbase in Miami are not great at attending games, staying in their seats and making a lot of noise.

Take it with a grain of salt. Those of us that know that we're die hards can look down on all the fairweathers that are out there.

Enough already..

If Miami was able to put up anything but crap within the last 10 years maybe people would show up. It's starting to change now..winning solves everything. I sure as hell don't remember Patriot fans being hailed "great" before they went on their little run. All of a sudden now though they are (atleast what the media says). Actually..cold weather would help out keeping people loud/in their seats which is why I think alot of northern teams get credited for their fanbase. Sit out in the sun for 6 hours and then sit out in the cold for 6 hours and show me who would be more active and moving around.

I've only been able to attend 1 Miami home game (I'm from South Dakota and live on a low income), and it was a major disappointment to see how few fans were there. It was in Nick Satan's last year durring his losing streak. I would love to get back to a game while we are winning and the stadium is full, but no matter what I will always be a DIE HARD DOLPHINS fan!

Two thing that we all overlook.

first , dolphin fans are not as loyal as LionS OR cardinal fans and the media keeps pointing out that dolphin fans are not serious about winning and the press never talks about the dolphin fan base because there isnt much tailgaing and partying like atmosphere. I cant argue about whether or not dolphin fans are good when it comes to socializing or tailgating but all the time I hear from game annoucers that, " well this teams fans should be mad or this is a great atmosphere "
if it was up to me I would be season ticket holder but i dont live down there. the fact is the dolphins dont have a exciting player to pay big bucks to watch and it shows in how far down the dolphins popularity has fallen.
Miami is catching flack in the dallas are media and a radio talk show host was complaining yesterday about how he is sick of playing big college games in a cess pool known as miami , Jim Treber called miami a third world country only miami doesnt have any sports teams to even be worht talking about.
if you want to hear this clown you can go to Jim treber .com or wwls sports animal .com he always is knocking the dolphins ,heat and the city of miami.

ha, I was just talking to my friend who is a bills fan about this. they mentioned our fan base is ranked 28th in the league and there are always more opposing fans at the games. and I was like thats fine, do you realize this is Miami, only maybe about 1/4 of the population is from here, most people that live here came with a favored team. There are 100 other things to do on a Sunday afternoon than go to a game. WTF is there to do in Buffalo, Dave and Busters and hibernate? Also the merry-go-round of regimes we have had here and the losses havent helped. When Shula and Dan where here we filled that stadium and it seems we are on that path again. Its changing now and will continue to improve.

When the Dolphins are winning Dolphins Stadium can be very loud...The Patriots game 2 weeks ago was the loudest I've heard it in a long time....The players should concentrate on winning

Agreed, I've walked up to the ticket booth prior to a Fins vs Pats game at the old Foxboro stadium, purchased tickets and gone in to watch the game.

Fans

Attendance at a game is the only way to show loyalty? PLEASE. I guess I should take my 7 Jerseys ( including Csonka, the best), 9 golf shirts, 35 autographs, 200 rookie cards, 4 blankets, 2 gym shorts, license plate on my car, oh yes--repaint my teal or aqua car ( as you see it ), sell my dolphins putter and Dolphins golf bag with head covers and Fins towel, game used face masks, change my Dolphin checks ( got them as a season ticket holder ), dump my Dolphin debit card, take down my dolphin calender, tell my girlfriend to do the same with all her Dolphins items, cancel my NFL Package, get back all the stuff I sent my new nephew ( HE IS IN PANTHER TERRITORY, I WON'T LET HIM GO TO THE DARK SIDE), glasses, shoes and about a hundred other things and just throw them in the trash. 7 hours round trip to the stadium, parking, 12 hours away from the family on one of two days off. Barely able to function the next day at work. $22.00 for 2 dogs and 2 beers. I watch my fins WIN OR LOSE. where I chose to watch, and support them, is my business. As you get older you realize that the opinions of others does not matter much. I'll take 200 loyal fans over a stadium of Bandwagons any day. True fans hold their head high no matter who says what. Stay strong.

Great points... Im originally from the Cuse and have been a finfan my whole life...that doesnt make someone who lives in Miami and gets to go to the games every week more of a fan than I am as some of the pompous make think.

I think there are some reasons why we have developed that identity.

1} Bad stadium plain and simple.

2} not a defensive identity or a tough identity has been established for a very long time.

{ for example, last week our stadium was full and ready to be inspired, our fans never got a chance to get in the game because whenever we tried to be loud, BAM! 3rd and long would be completed, all....game....long... A tough minded good physical defense will bring fans together and make them loud all by itself. Momentum is key....Opponents offense takes the field, we stop their 1st down run, its now 2nd and 8, we break up the 2nd down pass, then our crowd gets up, screams and someone on defense makes a play on third down, fans go crazy and momentum build for the next time the defense goes on the field.

We have destroyed momentum for this fanbase from a team perspective over the years.

All that being said, Thats not our new regimes fault.

When a team gets their fans on board is when the fans trust their teams consistency when it comes to the performance.
