[h=2]Despite a lot of needs, Miami is likely to take a QB in the middle to later rounds of the draft.[/h]With the NFL Draft around the corner, everyone is making predictions. While Miami has many holes to fill, don’t be surprised they take a quarterback in the middle to later rounds.

Adam Gase was hired to fix Tannehill and has stated that he supports him. There is no Quarterback controversy in Miami and Gase will do whatever he can to support, develop, and groom Tannehill into the QB that Miami needs. But more than fixing Tannehill, Gase was hired to win. He was brought in to fix the Miami franchise. So Tannehill has one year to prove that he is Gase’s man, after that Gase can go with a QB that he chooses and not one chosen for him.

This is the last year Miami is tied to Tannehill financially. After this season all Tannehill’s guaranteed money will have been paid and Miami can move on with no penalty. This is his make or break season. After putting together four mediocre seasons in a row he hasn’t shown the consistency, leadership, and ability to finish games.

Miami isn’t interested in being mediocre. Stephen Ross isn’t interested in mediocre. The Dolphins want great to win championships and they should. This is why Gase can take a QB this year a developmental project. He can push Tannehill without creating a controversy on who the starter is.

There are plenty of quarterbacks that Miami might look at later in the draft.

fine by me...take whatever developmental clip board holder you want to

Oh good, a mid-round chump as his potential replacement. If we are moving on from Tannehill, it means we likely did bad enough to be in good position to draft a top QB next year; but in this scenario, we'd likely pass because we drafted Joey Mediocre the year before. What's worse is that mid rounders this year are there despite it being a weak QB draft.

If in the somewhat unlikely event that Cardale Jones is still available in the 4th round, I would be thinking about him there

I really think wasting a draft pick in the mid to late round QBs is a mistake. If you look at the statistics, the vast majority of "franchise" QBs are 1st round QBs. 2nd rounders usually flop, the later rounds are lifelong backups for the most part, with a few journeymen thrown in there... Tom Brady is the only mid-late round QB to ever be worth anything... That's pure luck to snag that.

It's best just to use these draft picks to flesh out the roster and support Tannehill to see if he finally can deliver. And if he flames out get a 1st round QB next year.

The contract of RT says that drafted qb will be the starter in 17

Four quarterbacks on the roster with RT17, Matt Moore, Logan Thomas and Zac Dysert. You essentially have your camp QB roster right there.

Hopefully it's a late rnd pick for hackenberg. He's really the only qb outside the top 3 that I would be interested in.

Why not just try to develop Logan Thomas rather than wasting a pick on a younger Logan Thomas

If Tannehill fails whoever is on the roster isn't necessarily your starter next year. I would expect them use a 1st to draft a potential replacement.

If you're talking developmental guy with high upside what about Jones from Ohio State? Maybe he doesn't qualify as a late rounder???

If you want something, do it right the first time. No half-assing, please.

I also expect Miami to draft a QB in the latter rounds. The 3 QBs that I like as possible development prospects are Kessler from USC, Hogan from Stanford and the super athletic physical freak, Jeff Driskel from Louisiana Tech, previously Florida. Driskel isn't a quick learner but he's built a bit like Cam Newton and hasn't got much attention but if he lands in the right place, can be developed slowly.
