Fantasy Football has swept the country with many millions playing every year. A lot of these players are casual fans, with some not really fans of the game at all. Yet they spend countless hours on stats and rankings for their drafts and following their play scores each week. This has greatly expanded the popularity of the NFL, a good thing.

However, this also affects perception of players. For many if a player is not worth drafting, or does not score for their team, that player is not any good.

I've seen that some here on South Beach with players like Wallace, Tannehill, etc. I don't play fantasy, and wondered what Phans here thought about this from their fantasy leagues as well as this forum?

*Thread idea from M&M today.

Fantasy football is a completely different entity than regular football.
It's simply matching up players to stats, at a stated value.

"Real football" value and "Fantasy football" value are completely
different things, and I think most people completely get the
difference.

Well.....

I got the Panthers D this week....so torn.

Good point. I see so many players get called "garbage" or something of the sort but when you watch them play they don't look garbage. Sure a WR might not gets 1300yrds but his other attributes like catching on 3rd down, blocking, clearing zones, and so on might make them better football players. I can tell you the signing of Brandon Gibson was like that for me. Didn't see greatness out of his stats, but then you dig into his play and I for one was impressed. Watching him this year I was even more impressed. I think we have a lot of guys like that on this roster.

Completely agree with the die hard fans. The point being made is with the "new wave" of fans following fantasy more than the games.

The other point being made is the NFL feeding this fantasy frenzy with rules to increase scoring, bringing in new fans, and making more money by doing so. They say that the old time fans, not liking the changes, are being ignored as the NFL knows that they are not going anywhere.

They are "Garbage" in terms of fantasy football statistics.

Do you not get that?

That's why people that have them in Fantasy leauges say that.

Ya, but they carry that FF perception to real life. I cant get behind that.

Who does? Everyone that I know that plays fantasy football that isn't really so
much a "football" guy, I can tell from first sniff. Who cares what they say?

Bunch of my buddies are good crossover guys. Im sure some guys on here are the crossover guy who can follow both. Its not that I care what they say, just pointing out that a players ability on the field can often times be skewed because of FF in the eyes of the fan.

Well, then they are a casual fan, and they don't know anything, so why bother being upset about it?

God DAMN do I have to tell people everything?!

My number one rule in fantasy football: DONT draft a Dolphin

Worked pretty well this season, 10-1 and in first place in my league.

It is HUGE, people get so confused w/ fantasy production vs. real production.

+1

Big time. Plenty of FF god's that actually suck in real life. And plenty of great great players that are terrible FF players.

I took Miller in the 4th round thinking he would have a break out year.

1 - LeSean Mccoy RB Eagles
2 - Steven Jackson RB Falcons (Bust)
3 - Jimmy Graham TE Saints (Steal in the 3rd)
4 - Lamer Miller RB Fins
5 - Dwayne Bowe WR Chiefs (Bust)
6 - Matthew Stafford QB Lions (Steal in the 6th)
7 - Torry Smith WR Ravens
8 - Daryl Richardson RB Rams (Bust)
9 - Emmanuel Sanders WR Steelers
10 - Alshon Jeffery WR Bears
11 - Malcom Floyd WR Chargers
12 - Matt Prater K Denver
13 - Cowboys D
14 - Chiefs D

My roster now is

QB - Stafford
RB - McCoy, Miller, Jackson, Andrew Brown (RB Giants), Bobby Rainey (RB Bucs)
WR - Torrey Smith, James Jones, Cecil Shorts, Riley Cooper
TE - Jimmy Graham
K - Matt Prater
D/ST - Panthers, Rams

8-3 record second place in 12 man PPR league.

Charles Clay is the only dolphin worth starting in fantasy. Maybe Tannehill in rotation, if you were one of the ones that didn't get a qb early. The rest of the fins are just bye week fill ins.
