Lets assume that Quinn slips to 9. After us, the draft order proceeds as:

10. Houston (from Atlanta) Just signed Schaub
11. San Francisco Alex Smith
12. Buffalo Losman/maybe draft QB
13. St. Louis Bulger/maybe draft QB
14. Carolina Delhomme/Carr
15. Pittsburgh Rothlisberger
16. Green Bay Farve/Rodgers/maybe draft QB
17. Jacksonville Leftwich/Gerrard
18. Cincinnati Palmer
19. Tennessee Young
20. NY Giants Manning
21. Denver Cutler
22. Dallas Romo
23. Kansas City Huard/Croyle/maybe draft QB
24. New England (from Seattle) Brady
25. NY Jets Pennington/maybe draft QB
26. Philadelphia McNabb
27. New Orleans Brees
28. New England Brady
29. Baltimore McNair/maybe draft QB
30. San Diego Rivers

If Quinn drops to 9 we could theoretically trade down at least once maybe more and pick him up around 12/13 or around 22! KC seems like a landing spot for Quinn since Huard isn't the answer and Croyle hasn't shown much and also Buffalo/StL are possible but both of these teams have decent starting QBs and a lot of other needs. Green Bay has a QB problem with Farve retiring (eventually) and only unproven Rodgers as a backup but they have a more pressing need at RB this year if they want to be competitive.

It seems possible we could trade out to GB at 16 and pick up some more picks in the later rounds/perhaps another 2nd round.... then trade down again from 16 to 22.

Of course this whole scenario depends on Quinn falling to 9 in the first place and then turning into an Aaron Rodgers free-fall into the latter part of the first round.

Why take a chance on someone else moving up to the #10-15 spot to acquire Quinn when we could get him at #9?

Green Bay may think Rogers is not the answer to replace Favre and decide to draft Quinn.
 
If you trade out to 12 with Buffalo or 13 with Stl on the condition they don't select Quinn... no one between 9-12/13 will likely select him so he would be waiting there for us at 12/13. Once you are at 12/13 it would be possible to trade out to GB with the same conditions and now we're sitting at 16 with Pitt (not taking a QB) and Car (not taking a QB) in front of us and at that point you would probably have to select Quinn because the risk of someone else trading up to nab him would be too high.
 
that is stupid. just take him when you can. dont get greedy. greed kills cuz we peobably would miss out and then someone will definately be getting fired
 
Even if he slides to #15, I'm pretty sure there will be a holdout for him to get Top 3 money just like Leinart and Bush last year. And remember what Huizenga said about holdouts. :lol:
 
If we are lucky enough for him to fall to #9, just take him. Don't screw around trying to be clever, jus take him.
 
Sorry, but no. IF the guy you have been targeting all along is there when you are up to pick, you take him. PERIOD. No getting fancy take him and be happy you got lucky enough to get him.
 
Yeah, this is a pretty ambitious plan, and SOUNDS good on paper (Getting out guy AND an extra pick or two), but in the real world, it's a disaster waiting to happen. Say Buffalo or St Louis might want Quinn (I don't really see them going 1st round QB given the 2 guys they have, but you never know when a talent like that falls). If we trade down to 10 or 11 to get him two spots lower, THEY could now move up one spot ahead of us and get him cheap.

Think about it. Say Buffalo is targeting him (for arguement's sake). They currently sit at 12. Should Quinn slip to us at 9, then they would want to trade up to 8 to get him before us. That would cost them a 3rd round pick (going by the value chart). Now if we move back to 11th, they only have to jump up 2 spots instead of 4, and it only costs them a 4th rounder. They may not want to give up a 1st and 3rd to move up to 8 for Quinn, thinking they COULD use a guy like Quinn, but at that cost there are other players they could use before him. However, for a lower cost they might be more willing to pull the trigger.

That is just one scenerio in which we could get screwed, so I say no way. If he is there at 9 we take him (I'd prefer to move up and take him just to assure we have him, I don't wanna take any chances), it's not worth the risk moving one or 2 spots lower to save a few bucks (which we prolly won't anyway since he is a top talent QB and he knows it) and pick up a late round pick, we have plenty of those.
