Brett Favre has told ESPN that it's "highly unlikely" that he will ever play again, even though he has a contract with the Vikings next season for $13 million.

With that being said... IMO Farve's potential retirement maybe for certain this time... He presently owns most of Dan Marino's overall passing records.

So I offer you a question: Who was the better QB, Favre or Dan Marino? Both were strong-armed gunslingers. Marino went to one Super Bowl, losing to the 49er's. In contrast Favre went to two Super Bowls, winning his first and losing his second. Let the debate begin. Let me know what you think.

Dan Marino was a better passer. They are 2 different types of players. I think the point is moot. Payton Manning as much it pains me to say will be end up being the best of all time!

Brett Favre set no significant single season records. His greatest asset is his endurance. He was unreliable in the clutch. Do people how often Favre failed his team? Remember in his second Super Bowl when he got the ball back with about 2 minutes to go and try to tie the game up? Montana, Unitas, and Marino always came through in those situations, but when the game down to Favre's ability to lead a TD drive, he couldn't do it. Favre's easily the most overrated player in NFL history. He's nowhere near top 5 all time.

There was actually a thread just made a couple days ago that has many many pages of talking about the best quarterbacks of all time. I still have to go with Marino as the Best Passer of all time. Took him alot less time to make those records than it took Favre to break them. The whole Superbowl ring debate is stupid. It takes an entire team to win a super bowl not just one player.

Comparing Favre to Marino is like comparing 10-carat to 18-carat gold or the speed of a marathoner to a sprinter!

How many seasons did Marino play? 13. How many has Favre played?

As great as Favre is, I think that speaks volumes for Marino. 6 less seasons.

It's like Sanders and Emmit. Sanders IMO will always be better. Had he not retired he would be the rushing king.

I also agree with Captain Lou. Manning IMO should and will go down as the best ever. He, to me, is the Marino of this generation who actually won a ring.

However, Marino, IMO will always be the best "Pure passer" of all time

One could make up his mind and end his career with class, the other is still in the "highly unlikely" leaving the door open garbage mode. (It's interesting that the Vikings courted Marino at the end or his career and they also took a fading Favre, thank goodness Marino remained a Dolphin and retired)

Marino definitely has the nod on thie one.

Farve by a nose.. Dan was great but Farve is just the tpye of QB I would of loved to see. Putting teammates on his shoulder and running with them. Super Bowl winner. Never miss a game. If I had to have a young Farve or Marino.. Favre,s my guy.. But only by a nose..

Marino was more reliable. If I was going into the Super Bowl or AFC Championship game, I'd rather have Marino. Favre is great but there is a reason he also has thrown more INTs than any other QB. Marino would be less likely to make that costly mistake that Favre has the past few years.

In terms of the Super Bowl, it takes a team to win it.[Brad Johnson won a SB with the Bucs in 2002. Is he better than Marino? No. What happened to him anyway?] Sadly the Dolphins defenses and run games were just average when Marino was here, until the end when Marino was older and less effective. The Colts have had a solid Defense the last couple years. Plus, there werent as many rules protecting WRs in the 80s/90s. Which is why it's hard to compare teams [Example: the 1972 Dolphins to the 2007 Patriots. Dont forget in the 70s the rules were different, and dont forget there were pretty much very few supplements back then. Technology helps players in both getting better and recovering from injury, as well as staying healthier.]

Ignorance is Bliss.:tongue2:
Favre is one of four quarterbacks to lead the league in touchdown passes four times. The others are Johnny Unitas, Len Dawson and Steve Young.

2 different types of QB's. Apples to Oranges. Marino the best pure passer of all time. Favre the most durable and proven winner. Don't take away from one to justify for the other. Canton has room for both.

dont let it pain you, be greatful that everytime he steps on the field we are witnessing history. I love watching manning play and I agree, when it is all said and done, he will be the best pure definition of the Qb position that has ever played the game.

Ignorance? Did you watch ESPN after Favre's latest meltdown? Tom Jackson actually praised him for having the "courage" to throw interceptions. If any other QB choked like Favre has on multiple occasions, they'd be crucified. Favre is actually adored his innumerable **** ups.

Tom jackson praised Favre for throwing a pick? Haha.. Jackson is a jackass for saying that.
Its not "courage" to throw interceptions, its the "stupidity" to throw interceptions, it sure doesnt take courage to throw a pick..

I think the Era he plays in had something to do with it but still, he WILL be the best of all time when it is all said and done, old era or not.

Who holds the record for most interceptions, most bonehead plays to help a team lose, most flip flop retirements, laziest and least hard worker (training camp), most announcers on his c*ck? Its all one player, and there is no way Favre is even close to Dan the Man.
