This is purely a hypothetical question, definitely not what I want to happen. But say that this year Feeley gets his shot and really shows that he is not the solution at QB and obviously Gus is only good for a year or two more. We would then be looking for a new QB. One option would have to be the loser of Brees/Rivers, who I believe will be Rivers. The Chargers obviously have to get rid of one of them after this season, so my question is what can the Chargers ask for in a trade for Rivers? I believe that they will initially be asking a first rounder, which many teams will be reluctant to part with. Do you see a scenario where the Chargers will be forced to unload Rivers for a lower pick because it just doesn't make sense financially to keep him on the roster? And do you think Miami would part with a pick for him? Whats the lowest round pick we would give up. I say he'd be well worth a 2nd rounder and maybe a future conditional 4th rounder. 1st rounders are just too valuable these days.

I think you are on the right track. My biggest concern would not be the pick you had to give up to get Rivers, it would be his contract. If this scenario does unfold can we afford Rivers under the salary cap without having to release other quality players? Time will tell.

I like the Brees/Rivers situation. One has to go, and they both have big upside. Even Brees is a young QB, really.

The question is who will go? Brees is much easier to lose financially, but you have to wonder will Rivers live up to his talent. I don't think they have any idea who will go yet.

Instead of trading for Rivers, i say we use our own pick, whether at our starting spot or after a trade-down, to pick up Texas A&M's Reggie McNeal. IMO he's very Culpepper-esque and would be a great young prospect for Linehan to groom.

I would take rivers for a second rounder in a heartbeat. If feeley doesnt pan out i really think its better to spend a secodn rounder on him than a first rounder in the draft if nothing is there. I mean i doubt saban will pick a qb even if there really isnt one to pick.

No way Rivers goes for a second... he hasn't lost any value, he's just ready to play but teams didn't have to pay him to sit...

Think about it.. the chargers had to pay tons of loot to let the guy practice and learn the pro game... They aren't gonna trade him for a second.

They;ll trade Brees if they don't get to or advance in the playoffs.

Rivers won't be available for a 2nd rd pick. The only QB right now in next years draft who is better than him is Leinart, and it's not crazy to believe that he'll be available when the Phins pick. I think Leinart ends up with either the Titans, Browns, Phins, or Cardinals, the teams may end up being decent, but where else will he really go? If Leinart is not available when the Phins pick, I would give up a 1st for him. He throws kinda sidearm, but the 2nd best Qb in the draft according to most sites is Jacobs, whose throwing motion and mechanics are gonna take atleast 2 seasons to correct. If someone is waiting for a Qb to emerge, I think the guy who might have a huge year is Tyler Palko of Pitt. Unlike you I think if Brees has a year close to last years, he stays and Rivers goes.

I don't know... they have alot invested in both guys... but if Drew can't get them over the hump I take the young guy and the pick(s) you get from a Brees trade.

maybe so but if rivers gose they will loose way way more i cap money even if brees dose do great they will still just about have to keep rivers and trade brees that will help if he dose do great maybe it will take a 1st to get brees

Good point. Would he / could he restructure to get a deal done on another team? Just to get his shot at being the man?

That is a more likely scenario maybe. But why did the Chargers keep him and start him this year? how much can he up his value with another quality year? A fair bit to show he really has it now. But what if he flops? Then his value drops hugely! Why did they keep him this year if they plan on getting rid of him anyway? It also puts off the development of Rivers nother season.

Your Most Accurate...if feeley gets his shot and doesnt pan out..Gus is only good for another year or so.....THIS year you draft a QB in the early rounds NOT first because thats where you go CB and you groom him in Linehan's System and he will have Gus as a great teacher

remember that Saban is not about trading Picks away....he builds the team through the draft

Still, I don't think from a franchise point they can't do that. If Brees has a great season, I don't think you can trade a young franchise Qb. Even if Brees does great I think Rivers trade value will be more than Brees.
