What is your favorite draft day memory?
I have 3.
#1 I remember the '83 draft, I really wanted Curt Warner, RB from Penn State. I was a junior in high school, and a classmate of mine was a huge Seahawks fan and had wore a small headphone radio to school to listen to local news radio for draft updates. I caught up with him at the end of the school day to see who Miami got, and he laughed when I asked. "My Seahawks got Warner. Guess who you guys got? Marino!" I remember saying, "What the #@$%@? We don't need him! We're okay with Woodley and Strock!" I was so mad. I glad I was was one of I'm sure many who were so wrong.
#2 1989. Two first round picks.....excitement galore. It was the first year I also taped the draft selections on VCR. Sammie Smith was the pick at #9. I was wrong again, I thought this guy was going to be a stud for us. Then we got Louis Oliver at #25, and taped a feature ESPN did on him being from Belle Glade and how he was a David Fulcher type performer at safety. Berman even added theat it was a shame he dropped so low, and that "he is going to be a great pro in Miami for the Dolphins".
#3 1992 A few years later, married, in my own house, and throwing a draft party. My buddies were all Browns and Steelers fans, but I was happy to have a better draft than they did. My predraft board had Vincent, Coleman, and Hollier on it and we grabbed all of them! My pals still mention that when I see them and we talk football memories.
So what are your memories? Hopefully, we'll all have the best memories yet happening today!
