Favre's unexpected retirement just proves to me that the only reason he came back last year was to break Marion's records. He had no reason to come back last season, with 3 MVP's 2 super bowl appearances plus a superbowl win, what else could you want other than another superbowl. However everyone including the packers did not for one second beleive they would be in the playoffs let alone reaching the NFC championship game. He was old as it is and slowing his team down the 2 previous season interception after interception, he played through alot of injuries and just had no reason to come back other than to go after Marion's records

This is not bashing Brett Favre, he is one of the greatest players of all time, just as a dolphin fan and a big fan of Dan Marion, i think its a little sad that he was just back to get the records b/c theres no way he thought theyd even have a 1% shot at the superbowl

Marino accomplished his records trying to get back to the superbowl and win one, not trying to win a 4th MVP or a 2nd superbowl and break people's records

Nahhhh. He returned last year cause he was still having fun, and cause he is Brett Favre.

Sorry, this retirement just means he is ready to retire

I dont agree but that reminds of one more reason to hate Wanny and Johnson. Marino would have added at least one more year for us and would have done no worse than his replacement.

he was still having fun taking a pounding of injuries and playing with a crappy team and throwing constant drive killing and game killing interceptions the previous year? Sounds like alot of fun...

Favre wanted another super bowl not the records. If the Packers tried to help favre and give him a weapon then he would be back. The reason he retired is because the packers just did nothing in helping them get better. If randy moss was a packer favre would still be playing for atleast 2 more years

ye but as is i said in the original post NOBODY including favre expected them to get there or even make the playoffs, so what was the point of coming back

I seriously doubt thats all he came back for. But even if it was, so what? I know if I were within a year of a bunch of all-time records, I would give it another go to try break them. The records probably were a small part of the reason for his last year, and who can blame him for that? Im sure he just wanted to play more than anything, though.

I cannot stand Farve but I don't think he played last year only to break Marino's records. It does not make him a better QB than Marino and I would not be shocked at all if he played again.

I agree to an extent with the poster. I believe he did come back to break Marino's record(s), and win another championship. Favre new he had a team capable of winning a title, to assume otherwise is ridiculous. The guy has been around long enough to know talent when he sees it.

He said it himself a couple seasons ago they were the most talented bunch he'd ever played with. We all thought he was insane, turns out he was onto something. I wish him well. He was def one of the all-time greats.

Even if he did come back for the records, so what? It doesn't diminish anything that he did. It's not like just anyone could decide to come back for one more year and break most of the major career passing records.

There is no need to try and tarnish Favre's accomplishments to make Marino seem greater. Both men made quite a good case for their greatness on their own.
