Feeley chance still alive

A.J. Feeley really frustrates me, because he has such a great talent at throwing the football, but he lets other parts of the game keep him down. I hope over the next few games he shows more awareness and confidence and makes more plays. IMO if he starts showing more awareness and continues to throw the ball well, nothing will stop him.

No doubt that's whats keeping him in the league and I think why Saban hasnt written him off yet. If Feeley had the grasp of this offense to the extent that Gus does he would be the clear number 1. Feeley needs to settle down and get a grip on his emotions and just let it fly

AJ needs to impress this weekend. Right now, his biggest asset is his youth, if they can get him looking good, he will be here longer than Gus, who is a short term solution no matter what he does due to his age. I really hope AJ starts lighting it up, we need a young guy who will pay off long term, don't want to go through this every year or two.

Why is it that everytime something bad happens when AJ is on the field, someone else is to blame? He needs to overcome hos own mistakes if he's going to start for this (or any) team. Maybe playing against the 2nd strong for the other team will help him out.

Are you blaming Feeley for Derrius Thompson's drop? Are you blaming feeley for the running back fumbling the ball away in the Jags game? I said clearly he still has to learn to overcome mistakes made by others. He gets too emotional IMO and lets negative plays effect him. I havent seen any training camp practices so all i have to go by is the games but in the Bear game he had one bad play when he underthrew Chambers while a receiver on the right was open. In the Jags game he had moments but in the end he got frustrated and it kills his game when he gets that way

I think that Gus will start because he's already proven he's the better player. However, we have three preseason games left and AJ still has a chance to improve greatly. He'd need some big plays to put himself back on the #1 spot, but I think he can do it.
The reason I want AJ to succeed is because he's the younger of the two. While Gus might come in and play great, we can't count on him to be healthy... or even in the league in two seasons.

Right this min. Frerrotte is better. His ability to operate the playbook comfortably is because of his familiarity with it. I do not think skill or talent wise he is any better than we have seen although there is much room for improvement due to reps. He may become more efficient but not award winning. Feeley, playing confused and unable to work his progressions is looking terrible. I think this will correct itself in time, and this Frerrotte start might take some pressure off. Instead of cramming in all in at once they can work on his weak areas without harming the first unit repetitions. He is playing awful and he is still not being blown out by Gussie. Bad for us, good for him. Anyway, it does not matter one whit what any of us think they are both going to play this year and AJ probably won't have to beat Gus out, he will probably replace him because of injury. When the time comes AJ will step in, let's hope he steps up. Go Fins!

I still think AJ has the better upside but time is running out for him to show it

Upside for what? He is not the future and if he made it to the playoffs, he would get killed. My game plan would be relentless blitz packages until he was a basket case. Blitz and play the run. He would have by half time or be injured. I am talking a quality playoff calibre team, like the ones on our regular season schedule.

Very good point

What exactly has Frerotte done to show he's that much better...he's made just as many mistakes...there really isn't much between them...This battle says basically, that we are screwed as far as QBing is concerned...

Blitz and play the run is definitely the way to scheme him but I haven't written him off and I dont think Saban has either. We'll just have to see. The bottom line is he's competing against Gus Frerotte which isnt setting the bar very high so if Feeley does improve he would seem to me to be the better QB.

I have not noticed that. I would have guessed that the clips would show especially last year that he remained focused pretty well. If he gets as you say that is much more impacting that any skills deficency.

His problem is he presses sometimes when things dont go right. That can be overcome with repetition. Plus he is known as a bad practice player. I dont know but I think that Saban would prefer to go with Feeley and his arm but just cant trust him with the offense yet
