They need a vet back-up QB on their roster... Rivers and Brees wont be there together for long (if they both stay this season... it will be the last one)

He has been learning their system all year... why bring in a new guy when they have a solid back-up already on their team?

Its a smart move for the Chargers IMO... Feeley is a vet with starting experience that can come and fill in for them in a jam... He wasnt as bad as people made him out to be...

If i'm correct Feeley was paid as a backup his first two years in Miami. After the 3rd year he was going to be paid as a starter, i dont know if he still has that contract in SD. Imo he will restructure to the vets minimum because frankly, that's all hes worth.

Feeley was bad on a team with no line cohesion and no running game at the end of the year he actually had played better much like people say Gus did this year. The differance was no running game and brand new oline(5 new starters) Gus would have done just as bad. If you want proof go back to Gus's Cinncy three game starting stint. He was worse than Feeley with 1 td and 5 int in three games as they started 0-3. Guess what they ended up with the #1 pick Carson palmer. So much for this Gus's winners theory.

Gus didn't throw a single INT for a returned TD....nuff said. Feeley did improve but could never avoid mental mistakes which is just as or more important as completion %s etc. How many games last season did we win by a TD or less? Add in a few INTs for TDs like Feeley always threw and our 9-7 record would be much worse... How many games did we lose by a TD or less the season before?.....same story...our record would have been much then 4-12. It's not all the QBs fault....but stupid mental mistakes of that type DO cost games. Good riddance to the over-priced 3rd stringer...

It isnt near as black and white as that... Gus had an solid pass protecting o-line and a very solid running game... Feeley had neither...

Frerotte's 2005 completion percentage was STILL lower than Feeley's in 2004. As was mentioned already, Gus actually had a running game and pass protection.

Interceptions returned for TDs aren't nearly the issue. They play calling had a lot to do with that, as (many of you forget this) Fiedler ALSO had way too many interceptions returned. Calling the quick out repeatedly will cause that, while I'm not sure Gus even threw a catchable pass if the quick out was called last year.

One can only wonder if Feeley would have been any good if he would have gotten a chance this year.

I still wonder. We gave the guy one shot on an awful team, then gave up on him. Ill admit that Im one of the ones that gave up on him, but now I wonder what if...

Even though I thought trading a #2 for feeley was stupid to say he sucks because he played on a team with 5 new line starters and no rb makes no sense. Many talk about the pick sixes but how do you explain that when starting in Philly he had no pick sixes and the last few games of last year he had none. If that his propemsity then it should show up all the time. Those int for tds were a result of bad playcalling, no pass blocking and so on. Gus sucked bad in Cinncy so how come we don't all hold that against him. the reason is that how good a Qb plays is often influenced by the team around him although good Qb's can do more with less as Marino.
