Feeley Starts All Year Project Stats!

Based on what? 4 gamnes in relief? Ooooookkkkk! Gus could end up teh starter, but for once take off the bias glasses and be real. 4 games vs 4+ years? I look at the 4 + years he suked. Gus is a journeyman. Funny how so called intelligent fans will bash AJ for a horrible year his 1st year starting with no line and no running back and yet champion a guy who was not even good enough to start in Detroit where the starting qb was Ty Detmer and a wide range of qbs. who was benched in favor of Akili Smith in Cinci and subsequently Kitna when Kitna wasnt playing well. Makes no sense to totally dismiss AJ after 1 bad year with less than zero support and champion a guy who has failed everywhere he has ever gone except for a 4 game stretch in relief. But hey whatever.

Based on what I have seen of Gus over his whole career...including some very good games here in Colorado for the Denver Broncos.

This isn't a J.P.Lostman thread!!!!

At the risk of tempting fate (and knocking some wood here), wanna bet that Losman has a much better season (and brighter career) than your wonder boy, Feeley, who hasn't consistently started at any level since high school?

And that's not because I think JP's going to tear up the League in his first year, either. He's going to have some growing pains as he learns. Feeley, on the other hand, just doesn't seem to have "it"--I think you guys are better off staring Ferotte the next couple of years and then drafting a QB early next year to groom for the future. The sooner you end the AJ Feeley experiment the better off you'll be, IMHO, and that's based on watching him in a good number of games last year. Unlike Losman, he's been in the League several years now and if he doesn't have it by now, probably never will.

absolutely excellent reply!!!!!!

AJ won't even beat out Gus. Gus knows the system better and has more talent. Feeley is not the savior of the Dolphins. He is a mistake and wasted draft pick (Thanks Wannstedt).

The Buffalo fan is right - the sooner we end the AJ experiment the better we will be. It's time to be realistic and stop trying to make AJ something he's not. He's a back-up calibur player. Thats all he will ever be.

I agree with you. AJ is a back up QB at the absolute best. But it was a Spielman mistake more than a Wanny mistake. I also agree that Gus will start. But this debate will be on going until the season starts and we see what happens. You have a group that are AJ supporters then you have a group that are Gus supporters. Then you have a group (that I am in) that are neither but are realistic about the fact that Gus is more experienced, is better (which isn't really saying much), knows the offense better and simply has a much bigger edge in knowledge when it comes to the offense we will be running. Some people say AJ should start simply because we need to see "if he has what it takes." OR "Because he has more upside" Well, I don't know what that upside is. We saw his very very best with Philly. And that was very "Fiedleresque." AS in he may be able to, at best, manage a game. But we've all watched for 5 years how far you can go with a QB who "manages a game". This is the NFL. You have to have a QB who can make some plays. And not only that, but one who doesn't lose games for you. Hmmmmm...
By no means am I saying Gus is that man for the long haul. But for this season, given our options, Gus is the better option. He will make less mistakes than Feeley. He knows the offense very well and has the tools to excel in it. He has proven in the past that he can get it done in an offense that compliments his skills and this one obviously does. That's why Linehan and Saban wanted him in Miami. They didn't bring him here to back up Feeley. If anything, they brought him here to show AJ the ropes and to see if he could learn under the tutelage of Frerotte and perhaps take over next season. Of course they will give AJ the opportunity to win the job. It will be a fair competition that I think Gus will win. If AJ doesn't impress with the ability to pick up the offense and show looks of promise for the future, then I think we look for a QB in the draft or in free agency next year. Some will argue that Feeley won't be able to show his skills if he is on the sideline. Well to that I say, THEN HE BETTER WIN THE JOB. Also, he can show improvement in practice situations. He can show improvement in his understanding of the offense. He can approach being a backup for a season with the right attitude.
This is just my opinion. But I just can't see AJ overcoming the skill, knowledge, and experience Gus has - not only in Linehan's system - but in general. I guess we'll see though.

Now, the same two or three people will argue with me until their fingers bleed. :D And that's cool. We all have our opinions. And we don't always agree. But we're all still Dolphins fans!!

what's really telling about Frerotte's character is the fact that he came here, and didn't just blow off Feeley. He actually said that he had no problem helping him, and would answer any questions he had. He could have easily said, "F you AJ, you're on your own"

There are posters on this board that are so anti-Frerotte its not even funny. Guys who say "We'll be in deep trouble if Gus starts" or "Its a waste to start Gus", etc. Its funny, you would think that Gus was an a-hole to them or something, but there's nothing further from the truth. He has offered AJ help, yet that fact never gets any note-Gus is definitely a team player.

I wonder what these guys would say if Sage earned the starting job. The same guys who say that AJ should start because he's younger, or because he's got a strong arm, or that he has more upside. Well, what about Sage? If ANYBODY has been given a terribly raw deal on the team, its him, and he has not complained once. If Sage came in, and blew everybody away, I wonder how they'd feel then?

You're right, if Sage were to win the job, there'd be all kinds of excuses and complaints flying around. People are just hell-bent on Feeley for some reason. Personally, I'm hell-bent on who legitimately WINS the job and can help this team win the most games. And I guarantee Saban feels the same way. He wouldn't care if we gave up a 1st rounder for Feeley and he could throw the ball the length of the field. He will start the QB who gives us the best chance to win.

6000 yards

It could happen (just throwing it out there.)
