I was just tuning into the "Big O Show" on 560 WQAM, and at the start of the show Big O mentioned that he had heard that the Dolphins and Vernon Carey were close to a new deal. It's nothing official, and probably speculation on Big O's part, but I figured I would pass it along to you all.

Hope it's true, Im not a huge Carey homer, but no reason to have more holes to fill when you already have a good player.

I think if we do get him resigned it's probably going to be for more than he is really worth, but finding a replacement won't come cheap either.

I really can't see a scenerio where Carey doesn't re-sign with the Phins. He was born and raised in Miami, went to college at the U, grew up a Phins fan and was Thrilled when the Dolphins drafted him. Unless Miami really just didn't want to keep him or made a really insulting offer Vernon will be a Phin for some time to come. I know he wants to get paid just like everyone else too and if he did hit FA and another team offered a boatload more than Miami he could walk but I'd be willing to bet that Carey definately doesn't want to leave south Florida.

Heres hoping we sign him and we sign him on the cheap.
Thanks for the news.

Ill take it with a grain of salt. But, it has gotten me excited.

I don't think you can have enough T's. If we sign him to a decent deal and we sign or draft another T who beats him in camp, I have no problem with that. I could think of worse things than Vernon Carey at back up. I just wonder how much Miami is gonna pay him to stay. I know his position is one of need for most teams and that alone would increase his market value, but over paying him is not the way to go IMO. If he were a pro bowl RT I would be a little more willing to gve him a nice contract. I guess we'll see.

Good news if true... we cant let VC hit the FA market.

I've veered back and forth on the Carey thing. At least he can play just about every position on the line reasonably well.

I'm friends with Vernons' Dad, you hit the nail on the head.

Carey was a lot better than average and his weight was up last year...

Carey was the "star" the bright spot of this putrid offense two years ago playing LT...not forgetting RBrown who couldn't make it through the season...
