i might be wrong but most people say that ferotte has the advantage over feeley, but most of the reports say its about even race between the two.. so what does that say about feeley.. the "new to the system guy" and ferotte who "already knows" the system being a close match??? is feeley doing better than we think???:hmmm:

You only need to look as far as Ozzys daily camp reports to see that Gus is playing better.

Someone else brought that up earlier. It's a good point. Frerotte having been in the system for 2 years and being neck to neck with Feeley ....

well, based on Ozzy's reports, Frerotte is doing better overall based on his reads and not locking onto receivers, but it doesn't suprise me as much because the entire offense is new to the system, while Frerotte is not. For example, a few days ago, Gus was yelling out instructions to the WRs. He may throw some bad passes from time to time, but I bet theres a bunch of miscommunication from the rest of the offense not knowing the system as comfortably

thank you well put

feeley has a slight advantage because he knows the receivers better that hes throwing to. and Frerrotte has a slight advantage because he knows the system. so its even.

IMO... Gus looks better interms of checkin down his receivers (even though he didnt see a couple of open guys last night) you can also just see that he knows where the WRs are supposed to be by turning around a firing to a guy on an out that he wasnt even lookin at...

Feeley looks better interms of his actual throws. He has more zip on the ball and a tighter spiral... Gus throws a duck from time to time... However Feeley still has a tendency to lock onto a receiver and isnt quite checking down his WRs quick enough...

It is a pretty even battle but each is struggling and succeeding with different things...

Nasty

Feeley is just a better QB imo.....

Just pisses me off that Ferotte doesnt look better out there when he knows the system, not that I want him to start over Feeley.

As for Feeley he needs to be more consistant and relax when hes pocket i know last years OL may have effected him permantly. but other than that everything else is teachable like not locking on to the recievers..

There lies the problem, but a good one..this tells me that if Feeley is in this system for 2 years, he'd be light years ahead of Gus, thus saying that the potential lies with Feeley and the immeditate wins lies with Gus. The fact that Feeley can even hang with Gus right now, gives me hope that this guy, once comfortable with this system can light up a score board. It's too early to said which should start, but I think the long term solution remains with Feeley. It should his job to lose. Gus is a good coach for Feeley at this point, but Feeley's arm was made for this system. Now he just has to get it down pat..the fact he's now starting to check down is really encouraging. The fact that they have the time to check down is encouraging in that the OL is giving them enough time to do so..that year, they could only look at one receiver, I think that where Feeley picked up that habit, never having time to look somewhere else.

I think that says more about people's inability to analyze QB play. Locking on to receivers is not a factor of not knowing the system. It is a result of not having a feel for the game. He locks on not b/c he doesn't know where the receiver will end up, but b/c he can't read the D and see where the openings will be in his head. Locking on is something that QBs with feel correct after a short while not something they still do in the fifth year of practice. Everytime I hear praise for AJ it usually involves him throwing a dart. To many people that's all they analyze when it comes to QBs. He can do that, but he lacks feel so he never knows when he can just lay it in there. Very few QBs develop feel if they don't show it at least some of the time early on. AJ will not suddenly get feel just b/c he learns the system (although reports are he isn't real bright so that may take a while too). I heard one media (not PFT)report that said that despite the public face (everything is even) that the coaches are groaning when they watch tape of AJ. My guess is that they'll keep saying open competiton to keep the pressure on, but that Gus (although not great by any means) is already the starter in the coach's mind.

Well I posted a clip earlier of a 65 yard bomb Frerotte threw last year. Problem is I exceded bandwith limit on my webspace so Ill have to wait a couple of days to repost it.

Yeah, if a QB has a feel for the game, but throws lame ducks he is gonna succeed. No one on this board knows how to analyze QBs but rafael.
:goof:

Get it straight, dude. Feeley made bad decisions and locked onto his WRs a lot last year, but he improved as time went by. You need to have experience and comfort in the system your playing before you can get a good "feel" of where your receivers are gonna be. You are a Gus homer and I don't understand why. Everyone on this board should be rooting for Feeley to succeed, cause he has more upside. I'm not saying he will succeed, just saying you shoud all be pullin for him. Even if we draft a QB next year, he won't be ready until 2008.

No, everybody should be pulling for any one of our QB's to succeed.

If you think Feeley has the edge, you havn't read a single camp report or any of the articles. ESPN insider even said the competition was a sham because right now there is no way in hell AJ is starting.
