I don't know if anyone else noticed, but Donnie Jones almost lost us the game yesterday. I understand that the offense wasn't doing him any favors by going three and out a few times in the second half, but Jones wasn't getting good hang time out of his punts, and it seemed like he was punting directly to the return man. The result was poor special teams coverage, and a lot of good field position for the Vikings offense. For some reason, Jones doesn't seem to be having as good a year as he had last year.

Although he did not have a good game yesterday, I have to disagree with you. I think he's been consistent most of the season, but he's still young and learning. I think he is having a pretty good year for a second year punter.

NFL Ranked #1 in Net Average
NFL Ranked #3 in Inside the 20

This is only his second full season as the starting punter and those are very good stats for a young punter.

He's been ok, not great, not horrible. But what REALLY almost cost us the game was the 17 extra points we failed to put on the board. Opening drive fumble on their goal line(7pts), another miss by Mare that should have been made (3pts) and a late game TD pass called back for holding (7pts). Thank goodness our D stepped up and saved the game late, because it was a little dicey there near the end.

yea thats the thing because we won everything bad gets overlooked.

We were outplayed yesterday on offense and special teams but because of JT and company we won.

How many times did the vikes start at their own 30 or better?

I noticed and I agree with you. We lost the special teams battle yesterday and it was almost very costly if it wasn't for the defensive performance.

On the bright side, really if you look at it, winning the special teams battle was a big part of our wins against the Chiefs and Bears, and on a season-long basis Donnie has done well.

So hopefully Donnie will put this game behind him and play the way he's been playing for us since we signed him last year.
