Problem is much like a golfer punters can be plagued with a series of shanks, and Fields admits that's the source of his problem this season.

"I need to do better. I haven't hit the ball well. This is something I need to work on," said Fields, who produced a disappointing 40-yard punt that featured a 17-yard return for Green Bay, which set up the final game-winning drive in the final two minutes of last Sunday's 27-24 loss.

Fields is averaging 43.9 yards on his 19 punts. His net average is 31.3 yards per punt, which is the worst in the NFL by far. He's 3.6 yards behind the next to last punter, which is Chicago's Pat O'Donnell.

Last season, Fields averaged 48.8 yards per punt, and had a net average of 42.4 yards, which was a career high. He's averaged better than 40 net yards per punt for the previous three seasons.

"In practice and warm ups I'm hitting the ball very well, but I haven't been doing it in the games. That's something I need to change," Fields said. "I just need to do it. Simple as that, hit the ball better in the game."

He has been trash this season. That punt was awful. When I saw it, then the return, I groaned. I knew it was a sign of things to come... my friend watching the game with me, who had no stake in the game, thought it was crazy that I called a choke job right after that. HE DOESN'T KNOW, HE HASN'T GONE THROUGH WHAT I'VE GONE THROUGH THE PAST TWO DECADES, WHAT WE HAVE ALL BEEN GOING THROUGH.

Sorry, I lost it there for a second.

I've had a few situations watching Dolphins games with fans of other teams to where I call the collapse in a game when we're ahead and had the same 'what are you talking about' response only to look like a genius in the end. I understand believe me. Fans of this team are tired of the damn reruns. We're not the only fans that deal with it, but we do in fact deal with it.

Can't say I saw that one coming. Wow.

Never saw it coming either. If there was one player I knew would have a good season it was Fields. Can't believe his net avg is 31.3 and last in the league. Tragic.

His leg is worn out because of Tannehill as his QB for 36 games.

That's happened to me too, several times over the years. Every fan of this team knows that feeling.

If he keep this up let's draft a punter in the 5th round next year to replace him . (kidding)

Hopefully he pulls out of it soon and gets back to his usually consistent self.

Fields has a $4 Million cap number in 2015 and 2016. We save $3 Million by cutting him next year.
He better pick it up if he expects to play out his contract in Miami.

There is some blame to his coverage teams for the bad net average, But most of his punts have had terrible hang time setting up decent returns.

So he's only averaging 4.9 yards less per kick, but the net is a lot worse. Obviously, some of this has to do with hangtime, but could some of it be that our special teams (especially coverage) has not been that special this year?

That punt late in the game was inexcusable. He may not have a bigger punt all year and he failed miserably.
