Eventhough interest may be low for this game but for those who hope that Klinsmann will become the US Soccer coach this game is more than just "any" game.

German soccer fans are determined to keep Klinsmann and what better way to show the support than during the "little final". After all its in the city where everything for Klinsmann began: Stuttgart

He started his pro career in 1981 with Kickers Stuttgart and then moved to city rival VFB Stuttgart. He plaeyd there until 1989 and then explored the world. Its the city where he spend 50% of his professional life, a city where he still owns a little bakery (Klinsmann is a professional baker).

BTW, Germany was greeted like champions upon arrival in Stuttgart.

But Berlin will have the last word. On July 9th, the team will travel back to Berlin and will present itself on the "fanmile". Rather then heading straight into vacation, it was the team's wish to thank all german fans for their support. What better way to do it than on the world's largest gathering place for soccer fans. During the semi-final on 15 gigantic screens 950,000 Berliners watch the game there.

Berlin authorities expect as many people on Sunday. And since I know my Berliners they will find a special way to convince Klinsmann to remain German headcoach.

BTW, regardless if Klinsmann remains German coach or becomes the US coach. The only winner is FFiB: I root for both teams anyways.

Nice read FFiB. I hope Germany wins tommorrow.

Germany 3-0 Portugal

well, I hope we will do well against Portugal's national diving team.

Germany will play without 3 because of injuries (Ballack, Mertesacker, Friedrich). Klose and Borowski are doubtful. So we will see some of the players which Germany will rely on in the future. If Klose can't go I would not be surprised to see Odonkor from the beginning. Kehl will probably start (like he did against Italy).

The coaching staff said that it will be a thank you game to german fans. So I expect them to be much less defensive oriented as they were against Argentina and Italy (for parts). More like the Poland, Ecuador and Sweden game.

I hope they play like they did vs. CR. Tons of excitement.

US seek Klinsmann deal
By : Duncan White , 04/07/2006
US bound: Jurgen Klinsmann may be the next US coach

The United States football federation are prepared to throw money at Jurgen Klinsmann when the World Cup finishes to tempt him to replace Bruce Arena as manager of their national team.

Arena, whose side were eliminated at the group stage in Germany, will leave his post to pursue a job in club football and Klinsmann, a California resident, has been identified as the man to elevate US soccer to the next level.

A senior American federationa source has told The Daily Telegraph that preliminary contact has been made. It is thought that the Americans will put a deal on the table that exceeds the £1.5 million a year Klinsmann earns with Germany. That would be three times what they have been paying Arena.

The stylish success of the German team has been met with enormous enthusiasm, and the German football federation (DfB) are under immense public pressure to offer Klinsmann a new deal.

However, he does not want to move from his Santa Barbara home, and with the DfB keen for him to carry on until the World Cup in South Africa in 2010, another four years of transatlantic commuting could place too much strain on his family life.

You read my mind. While I was going through some soccer stuff I actually wanted to ask you guys (and girls) if anybody has actually heard anything about Arena resigning. I sure haven't. That is now solved as well.

There is a whole bunch of articles in german papers right now. Everybody sees the chance at 50/50 for him to stay. But chances to join US Soccer are also set at a 50/50 chance. Most likely scenario is that he will be doing an advisory role at the club level like he did with the galaxy and continue his job as a representative for sports outfitters.

cool.. :cooldude:

Yeah, I'll be rooting for Germany too. Kinda sad they lost to Italy! Oh well, now my hope really is for Klinsmann to coach the US. Thing is, since Hiddink is gone to Russia and Scolari is almost certainly only interested in big-name teams (Brazil and England come to mind - he's unlikely to stay with Portugal), I'm not sure who the best candidate would be if we don't get the best of the available ones: Klinsi.

Lets hope that is the case. Lets hope he feels that way and coaches the US.

The third place game...

"Congrats...you are the 2nd loser"...

I'm sorry...it doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

It is an apreciative game for those who lost the semifinals. A bonus for the losers. Because to be honest with you, when you reach the final 4 out of some 200 nations (when qualifying began) that is an accomplishment.

The FIFA World Cup has more than a message of winners and losers. It has a message of peace, fun, friendship between nations who normaly could not even sit at the same negotiation table.

For some in the US it may be an obsolete game because just "losers" play in them, but not to the world community.
