Practice Squad
I knew it
I knew when I pulled up Finheaven this morning there would be numerous threads on how bad the Fins looked. I figure I've been watching the NFL for about 25 years now and I've yet to see a 1st NFL preseason game that had any inclination of how good a football team will be during the year. Grew up in Louisiana and kept an eye on the Saints as a youngster. Man, seems like they always looked good in the preseason (hmmm, never seem to get it right during the year)
Personally, I think it's great that the Bears blitzed a lot. Looks like Houck and the line will be spending a lot of quality time together. As far as the QB play, I thought Gus looked somewhat more comfortable then Feeley, but I'm not ready to throw Feeley under the bus after one preseason game.
As far as the running back play. Walter Payton and Jim Brown couldn't have gained any yardage last night. It's hard trying to run through 4 defensive players. Again, I think that will be handled at the Houck roundtable.
As far as scheming, Saban didn't have a scheme. He wanted to see certain players play, he wanted to throw in certain blitzs, but that's basically what he wanted to do. I can guarantee you, he doesn't have all the blitz packages in as of yet. I doubt the ones he even threw at the bears last night is the one he would use in that particular situation during the year.
Just like Iverson would say - "you talking bout practice, practice, this is practice man?"
Please watch a few more games this weekend if you get a chance. Not a whole lotta good football in week one of the preseason.
