Akeem Spence has been Miami’s best Defensive Tackle in 2018… so far that is.

After an ugly game against the Panthers, Adam Gase has been under fire from Dolphins fans. Coach Gase though is upbeat and sees the team trending in the right direction. Many fans completely disagree. No one, not even Gase, can say what will become of the 2018 Season at this point…

…But the proof is in the pudding, and so far, the reviews of the pudding have been mixed.

One area Gase and fans should agree on is with Akeem Spence.

Man McMillan was bad on most of those plays. I hope that kid comes around because right now he looks lost and that's no good.

Definitely and I don't want to make excuses for him. But due to his injury in the 1st preseason game of his career and all that missed time he's had i can point to two things:

1) He really is a rookie that's playing for the first time.
2) The psychology of trying to not get hurt again. I think every player goes through this.

But I have to admit, on one of the crossing patterns to a TE, iirc, he looked like an old man trying to run. He looked like he ran a 5.10 flat

Dt tape does look pretty good there albeit on a total of probably 8 to 10 hand picked plays.

I am worry about the LB's just like everyone else. As far as Spence, he has played well but on that TD run he got handled pretty easy and pushed inside and away from the play. The LB's didn't feel the gap but Spence left a big gap to be filled on that play.

RM will need time and he does look slow out there but my biggest worry is him taking some horrible angles and not reading what's happening fast enough.

The recognition from Kwon was better in this one but still needs work primarily between the tackles. Team seems to be banking on it coming with time. I can get behind that based on what I’ve seen.

Either way this is the only option for 2018 and he’s very much a mission critical. I didn’t see anything that said needs to move to strong...yet

Game 3 will tell me a lot for what this season might be. The starters usually play into the 3rd quarter and there is a bit of game plan as well.

I saw the TD everyone is claiming he looked slow on. This was a slow mo angle that showed the play as it was developing. While the TE was crossing McMillan had shifted his body the wrong way and had to start running from a standstill position while Thomas was already running at full speed. Jakeem Grant wouldn't have caught up to him in that same scenario. Now while I am defending the he's slow comments, it's not good that he's not reacting to plays properly

Didn't look like no John Offerdahl to me! That TE TD completion was pretty embarrassing as well. Dude ran away from him like he was standing still.

Of yea. He was standing still!

Concerning... It's always seemed to me MLB is an instinct position and dudes like Zach made IMPACT day 1.

You can either do it. Or you can't.

Hope the kid catches on and ramps up his overall speed and precision.

50/50 bet at best IMO

I'm with you. Time will tell but I haven't seen anything yet with this small sample that tells me we have a great one here. He might be at some point and I'm hoping for it but I haven't seen it yet.
