Final grade on Chris Grier’s work as Dolphins GM continually pushed into the future

I have a final report card for Grier:

Drafting — F...... He sucks. When it comes to drafting, Grier couldn’t get laid in a whore house with a fist-full of 100 dollar bills. If you want to argue this grade, please see the ENTIRE 2017 DRAFT, and get back to me.

Trades — A..... Like Armando said....He’s a genius at keeping himself relevant. The #3 overall pick is ours because he ass-raped O’Brien. I’m pretty sure Grier will **** it up somehow.....But at least we have the pick.

Coaching Staff — B......He hit it out of the park with Flores. An absolute grand slam. BUT......He also picked Gase which lowers the grade.

The 2017 draft was horrible. Aside from that he's done well to really well. 2016 is a great draft. 2019 is also weak because of the lack of selections.

I really love last years draft..really love Flores...

Tua, Jackson, Noah, Hunt, Davis, Jones.Kindley, Perry is quite the haul.

he gets a couple more years Imo to do his thing.

I mean honestly, a draft class takes 3 years to grade almost as a minimum, so real time judgements are dicey at best. But Grier's plan stockpiled draft picks for the 2020 AND 2021 draft, so we need to give that class a chance to be drafted and then 3 years before making a realistic judgement. Right now we're just passing snap judgements. Better than nothing I suppose, but we need an asterisk next to our judgements.

I agree to disagree to an extent. If you are telling me he is taking credit for the last 6 drafts then there is plenty to judge him by and it is not good and that is putting it mildly. If you want to let 2020 simmer a bit, no problem but there are enough whiffs in the other 5 drafts to warrant his head on a platter.

I agree with the other poster, great at trades, great getting to cap space, hired Flores, one slight problem, we are in this mess because we did not have enough talent on the roster to worry about keeping. The guys who created most of our draft capital windfall were two players that literally fell in our lap in Tunsil and Fitzpatrick. Other than that? Vanilla, unimaginative, zero playmakers, sad.

The Plan? Genius but who has been part of this Circus for 20 years and has the blood on his hands that caused a lot of this?

This should be a fun draft considering our needs.

If the Jets take Sewell then we should be in business for another double dip in the first next year. Three second rounders this year would be a Godsend considering the names at WR likely to be available.

He's positioned us nicely with Coach, cap money and draft picks.

He also got Tua at 5...

A far cry from Randy "I can tell you what kind of QB you're getting by playing a round of golf with him" Mueller.

2017 was an absolute brutal draft. We basically have Lynn Bowden to show for it......maybe Godchaux or a compensatory pick.

2016 was great. Tunsil, Howard, Drake 1 1 pro bowl, an all pro and a starter.

2018 was great. Minkah, Gesicki, Baker, Smythe, Sanders. 2 all-pro's and 2-3 starters.

2019 was average. A quality starter, below average starter and a situational player so far.

2020 is too soon to judge.

Drafting lately hasn't been the same issue as in the past. Not holding onto Fitzpatrick or Tunsil is completely different from missing at the draft.

We didn't miss on Tunsil or Fitzpatrick, they fell in our laps. They are the only two Pro Bowlers besides Howard he has drafted in 5 drafts and they are now gone for this rebuild. The early returns are meh for what he got for the picks so far.

2016 - Not bad but Drake was nothing here and was used sparingly. I cannot argue with Tunsil and Howard.

2017 - Terrible.

2018 - Minkah was fine but is gone, Geisicki? Three years in and he is fine but could have had Andrews (Pro Bowl) or Godert. Smythe? JAG, Sanders? Most kickers don't have to be drafted but he is a Pro Bowl K.

2019 - Bad.

2020 - Where to start? 1A - Tua, sure I think we did the right thing here and did not waste capitol to get him. No Issues
1B - Jackson. We were stuck in no mans land. My issue was we were said to covet one of the big 4 OT. With all those damn picks how about a slight trade up? Also CeeCee Lamb is falling your way, again just sit there.
1C -Iggy? Sorry but this will be Charles Harris part 2, needed a RB or WR. Could have had our pick of the litter at RB. We brought in all of the big time RB's, nothing. A project CB.
2A - Hunt? - I feel like the 1C pick just threw everything off, again felt like Hunt was a reach, again RB or Winfield, who many wanted could have been had.
Just too damn many picks not to move up into and when we did it was minimal and past the point of where some difference makers were. He only has 7 picks this year, he better make them count.

That's fair. But we can also probably agree that the signature drafts of Grier will be 2020 and 2021, when he paid off those trades with lots of high draft picks. That 's meant to be transformational and build us a dynasty on the backs of some abysmal seasons. If he fails to build us a great team out of that, he will be judged harshly no matter what else he does well.

We need to set up the next draft as we missed on Herbert and there is great uncertainty about Tua.

When I asked people to rank Miami’s last 10 first rd picks, a lot of people wanted to throw up lol

I was a fan of both, Tua I had in front, it’s way too early to judge those evaluations imo.
I don't know that it is.

Yes, I know a lot can happen. QB careers are also a product of the org around them.

At this point though, Herbert seems to have answered the specific criticisms that ppl were alleging.

I would bet there are almost no Chargers fans that would swap. Can you say the same for Phins fans?
