Final open day practice report

Thanks for that pete.

What is going on with Henne? I know it's practice but he throwing ints left and right and is struggling for the past week or so.

I don't think Henne has gotten worse than last year...I think our defense may just be that much better. They may also be asking him to do more than he did last year...

I am hoping that is the problem...because I have to agree with others that the reports coming out of camp aren't exactly stellar...

Actually...it does appear that the defense is better...now add the fact that it takes longer for the offense to get it right...seems why all of the QB's are having a hard time so far. I don't see this as a negative at all.

I want the Dolphins offense to play against the best possible defense every practice and every game...only the strong survive!!!

Usually the stronger armed QBs also throw more INTs. Guys like Brady, Brees, Manning are the exception. I expect Henne to be far more INT-prone than Pennington...he will make throws that we will enjoy that Penny never could but he will also throw more INTs. To expect the exception rather than the rule is naive.

So you would rather have henne make long throws and twice as many INT than penny with shorter throws?

Give me a break.

Kudos, Fishypete. Sounds like you were right on the money in respect to Joey Thomas. This secondary has me at the edge of my seat. They'll certainly be tested this year.

I guess the "why cut Eric Green so soon" conjecture can now come to a close. The regime wants to see younger guys on the field especially if the talent that comes with old age sucks. I still stand behind having an older guy waiting on the bench.

I'm glad Joey and Jason are taking the "my leg hurts, family emergency" approach this week. I was not happy with the length of time Sporano left them on the field for last Sunday night. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever for those guys to have been out there that long. I know, I know. Sporano can do no wrong. Well IMO, he was dead wrong on that one.

Nice to hear that Carey pancaked McDaniels because after watching Miami's first series vs the Jags this morning I was about ready be fine and dandy with cutting Carey, resigning Green, and asking Green to play RT. Believe me, as far as that first series goes Green could not have done any worse.

IMO the Chad Henne negativity is being overplayed. I'm willing to bet that come game time the guy will produce just like he produced the only touchdown of the game Sunday night and if not for a perfectly thrown dropped pass would've produced 2.

I'm not happy about Wilford coming in 5th behind David Martin John Nalbone, and Joey Haynos (obviously Fasano is untouchable). The staff envisioned they could create mismatches with Wilford, they did last Sunday, he scored the only touchdown of the game. Where's Nalbone's score? Where's Haynos'? When in the years since Cameron brought David to Miami has he ever impressed? We know what that bum can do. I want to see more of what I saw with Wilford on Sunday. Perhaps its a motivational ploy. Fine. The coaches were smart enough to think they could do something special with Wilford at TE. They did last Sunday. I hope they're not second guessing themselves.

Re-read my post. I think you're mistaking me with someone else. :)

Theres alot more to a Tight end then just receiving and big plays. IDK if you wrong about his posistion on the chart but haynos and nalbone did not really get many opps. Henne did not look to be up to the stature everyone has been talking about. the one pass was nice but it was a basic pass. the drop sucked. At other times tho henne looked like nothing spectacular. i hope that he can change me mind the next time out.

David Martin has been an important part of our passing offense since coming here. He's not a pro bowler but as a second tight end he has made a ton of contributions.

Agreed, Martin had a couple of impressive TD catches last year.

Guys, I'm tempted to say "Prove it" as it pertains to your assertions of David Martin contributing in other ways in this offense but then I thought "What if they asked me to disprove it" and I'm not about to go digging for stats or things of the sort.

The only thing I could think of to say is this: taking the meaning of "more to a tight end than just receiveing and big plays" and "ton of contributions" to mean he's blocked well, I will retort with saying he has blocked well on a football team that has needed to rely upon the wildcat in order to run the ball.

It's just an opinion, but I'd rather risk the strike it rich mismatch factor with Wilford.
