Looks like Wright started talking himself and his job seriously and the report are saying that other than culpepper and spragan wright has been spending the most time at the dolphins facility working out and getting ready for TC

Dolphins | Wright drops some weight

Jeff Darlington, of the Palm Beach Post, reports <A href="http://www.kffl.com/team/22/nfl">Miami Dolphins DL Manuel Wright gained a whopping 28 pounds after admittedly feasting a little too often at his mother's California home this offseason. Wright appears to have gotten the message, dropping all the excess weight after methodically hitting the Dolphins' weight room when teammates had gone home.

Dolphins | Culpepper very serious about rehab

Jeff Darlington, of the Palm Beach Post, reports <A href="http://www.kffl.com/team/22/nfl">Miami Dolphins QB Daunte Culpepper (knee) has been the only player, other than DT Manuel Wright and LB Donnie Spragan, to linger in the halls of the team's facility during the final weeks before camp rehabbing his injured knee. Culpepper is still aiming to be ready to play opening night Thursday, Sept. 7.

thats good news about manny wright...the kid definately has talent...

that makes me like Wright even more...that hes one of the 3 that stay at the facility after practices to get even better

I guess Saban is finally getting through to him.

If he keeps it up, he'll be a monster. Last season whenever he was in he was absolutely dominant.

Good !
Im sure his mama told him that this was his only chance in life to make some big bucks and that if he didnt shape up mentally and physicaly he was gonna be workin at BK!

Well, that is good news. Nice to see the guy is whipping himself into shape and showing a great attitude. One of the saddest realities in the sports world are athletes with great potential waste it away by over indulging in life's pleasantries, let their bodies go un-conditioned, or develop its all about me attitudes. Thank goodness we have a discplinarian running this ship that makes no bones about getting the message across.

Not to mention were low on DT's so if this guy can come in and help out the better we are !

That's great news. He could have *****footed around and not gotten the weight off, but he didn't...so that's a positive. But, let's keep it in perspective...this news does not outweigh or cancel out what he did during the off season gaining that weight...because Manny forgot that he ended the 2005 in unacceptable shape and therefore needed to spend the off season IMPROVING that shape...where instead he just gained a bunch of weight and then battled to get into the same shape.

So right now he's stuck somewhere in the middle, could have been a heck of a lot better on his part, but it also could have been worse.

I agree that it would be awesome if he had been getting in shape and working hard all summer, but wright will be able to loose more weight and get into even better shape in TC. With big guys like wright they loose the weight so quick especially in the south florida heat that they can afford to get a little out of shape b/c theyll be ready for the season and won't be as worn out. I dont view it as a terrible off season for wright and think he'll be able to contribue and be very successful, although your right it could have been a great off-season, instead of just an ok 1.

Good news all around.

I love the fact that Daunte stayed in house and kept rehabbing also. I can't wait to see him during training camp.

You're right, he will be able to continue getting in better shape...but will it be good enough? The gap between him and the rest of the team in terms of body fat percentage, conditioning, endurance, etc...was just very wide. I wonder if he can close that gap now that TC is about to start.

Once the games and regular season practices start, it is very difficult to do ANYTHING to your body...because you're putting it through such a pounding. In 2005 he was able to continue getting into better shape because he was inactive the whole year except for like 3 games. He's not going to be inactive anymore...so he's got sort of a deadline.

Had he done better during the off season, I believe he could have closed that gap. I'm not saying this is going to be a wasted year, but we all saw what he's capable of on the football field for a limited number of plays...I think if he'd concentrated and closed that gap he could have not only won the starting spot from Traylor, but the pro bowl would have been a possibility.

But that's not the kind of player he is.

Man I am so amped for the start of the season.... The players that we need to step up the most and work the hardest are doing so! Right now the question marks on our team is: Who is starting in the last linebacker spot? Will Daunte be ready? Will Wright be able to take over for Traylor?

That at least seems like the biggest questions to me, and it makes me feel so good that the players are applying themselves.

This just reinforces the fact that Manny is still a little immature. Yes, I'm really excited about him getting back into shape and the maturity he showed by a) knowing he needed to lose the weight and b) making the effort during the traditional 'time off' period for most NFL pros, but there are also some drawbacks, as CK pointed out.

He is possibly more prone to injury now when TC begins. Even tho he's worked hard, it could play against him in the heat and strenuous activity he's going to be going thru. He's putting himself (his body) behind the physical eightball compared to the other players by having to work so hard now, when everyone else is getting some down time for their body before the grind of the season starts...

Also, he just isn't going to be as good as he could have been, had he worked a little more in the early offseason instead of emptying Momma's fridge...He will show us a lot more if he gets thru the year showing the improvement we expect from him and then continuing that momentum into next offseason.
