Many people believe that we can find a young quarterback that is an upgrade over feeley and ferrerote. Well its not that easy. A quarterback takes time to develop. If we signed one of these young guys it would be a long term project. Plus there are reasons why these guys are getting cut. If you look at the situation with Rohan Davey with the patriots, you'll see he is getting beat by a 7th round pick. Why should we sign a guy who cant even beat a 7th round pick. I dont care how good this 7th round pick is playing, but Davey should be able to beat him in competition!! Davey is a guy who has been in this league for a few years going to be cut because he is losing his quarterback spot to a player who didnt even play in college!!! The same goes for adrian mcpherson.

It is hard to tell what will happen to these guys in the future. They do have potential so maybe they are worth signing. It just does not seem possible for us to find a quarterback who can step in right now and be better than what we have. Our best chances of getting a good quarterback would be to use an early pick next year on one. For so many years after marino we have failed to use a high draft pick on a quarterback. This coming up draft it will be imperative that we use one on a quarterback. Then it may take a few years to develop him but its the best chance of getting a good quarterback.

Other than that guys we are looking pretty good. The quarterback position and offensive line are whats going to hurt us the most this season. Houck will find a way to make the offensive line a decent squad. All the other positions look to be pretty strong. The defense looks to be one of the best in the league. Our problems will mostly be on offense and how the quarterback plays. All we need a quarterback that will not lose the game, but not necessarily win it. I believe Fererrote and Feeley can do this. We will see better results once the season starts. YOu have to remember that it is just preseason right now and that it means nothing.

what we need is a quarterback who can run like hell, as far away from this o-line a possible. all kidding aside, I want a quarterback who can win us games and make the players around him better, and you don't see many of those these days. Maybe Manning, Brady and Favre are the only ones that fit that mold today. IMO Saban should draft a QB high next year, and hire the best QB coach in the business

You are right. Why should anybody think a cast-off from another team can play in Miami? This kind of loser thinking is what landed us Feeley and you see how that worked out.

I would love to see someone like Leinart or Jacobs falls into our laps, much like Marino did in 1983. But, I think Miami would have to be picking really high to have a legit shot at one of these guys. Don't be surprised if they go 1-2 next April. Young will likely stay in school, but I'm sure some other qb's will also emerge (Smith from Missouri maybe Whitehurst).

You're right, though. The team needs to find a quality qb if Feeley isn't the answer, which appears to be the case. I don't think they necessarily have to find one in the draft, although that would be the preferred method. If it turns out to be a down year for qbs, after Leinart and Jacobs, then maybe the best approach would be to get one of the top LT's, build up the defense and bring in a veteran qb like Brees or whoever else might be available. Recycling qb's isn't usually the answer either, but it sometimes works.

who is omar jacobs??? I dont pay much attention to college football.
he plays for Bowling Green and puts up huge numbers through the air, is a very mobile QB too. however I'm not too sure he will come out yet, he is only a Jr.

Omar Jacobs stats

We easily could have gotten Hasselback or even Kerry Collins but NOOOOoooo Wanny had to be a dumb a$$ and give away a 2nd rounder to the Iggles for Feeley. I say lets stick with what we have for one more year and then go after Leinart or Jacobs next year.....It doesn't look like we will likely have to "trade up" much next year to get one of the top picks. :( :fire:

Tim Hasselbeck you mean

you guys still with the "who is the right QB" bull**** lets just stick with what we got, if any of us had anything to say about the QB situation we would be alongside Saban, but we're not lets just leave it to the pros who get paid the big bucks to figure it out. I mean i would like to get an awesome QB but it's getting old.

I think Nick, and Randy are going about this the right way. They are evaluating what they have, what's available out there, and what will be available in the 2006 draft. It would be too much for any coach starting his NFL head coaching career with a rookie quarterback, when there was so many other holes to fill. I think that hoping that someone will get released and be the savior to the team won't happen. We may pick someone up, that will learn the system, and benefit us in the future. I am sure Nick has got Randy, and the scouts, looking at and evaluating possible pickups, and trades.

we must ensure that we go into the season with the best three we can, so that we may build in this lacking position in the draft, or possibly a good free agent pick up.:beerbang:

when are you guys going to start realizing we could bring in joe $(%&*$% montana or dan marino in their primes and behind this offensive line they would just be another jay fiedler, guss frerotte, aj feeley etc etc etc...if our line was blocking like a real nfl line, you'd be amazed how much better our qbs would look. untill then its pointless to bring any qb in. give aj or gus some time and see how they do.

What we've got is all we've got for another season. We need to play the guy who can make the rest of the team feel like they're not just wasting their time this season. If you're Zach busting heads on defense, you don't want to stand on the sideline while AJ warms up all season. Ferotte is good to start and we'll see where that takes us. We won't be seeing a good (doesn't have to be great) QB until PLEASE PLEASE next year. By this time next year, hopefully Ronnie will be running hard and the offensive line will be solid so we can be clicking on offense in '06 with a quality QB.

Thats where youre wrong. I too agree that this offensive line unit blows but to say that Montana/Marino would have looked like Fiedler etcc is beyond ridiculous. They were QB's who made great decisions and great plays...inturn helping the offensive line out quite a bit. Now the o-line unit did play great when Marino was here HOWEVER you think that his lightning quick release didn't make the o-line look like they were protecting him better than they really were sometimes? Surely you jest. The o-line of old was much much better but Marinos release & Montanas quick decisions made both offenses go make no bones about it. We'll run this year qith a giant ? at the QB position and well draft one next year to develop. We are building a solid defense and getting the team to gel....then well add the QB Saban wants. Whether we wanted it this way or not( you usually build around a QB) the defense is starting to take shape and well be fine after this rough gel-ing year.
