I have been saying this over and over on this board. Finally, an article that understands that there is no issue. Hugo understands that Bill Parcells does not invest in shutdown corners. He will never overpay for a portion of the defense that is not emphasized. This is what you should expect from a BP defense.

A CB that is good enough to get the job done. If you are lucky, he drafts another Ty Law. Otherwise, He is going to pay the CB position a low amount like half of the Goodman contract.

Terrence Newman #5 overall draft pick in 2003

Anthony Henry signed huge FA contract in 2005 (5 yrs 25 million 11 million bonus)

...and I would argue against naming Terrence Newman a bust. He had a down year in 08, but is a very good football player.

Great article. I've been preaching this all along. Anyone that knows bill parcells knows that his defesive schema does not include superstars at cb. Stop the run and a good pass rush win football games.

Actually Jerry Jones wanted him, Bill wanted Kevin Williams in that draft. The story goes that Jerry took Parcells out for dinner and convinced him other wise.

Great article - front seven play dictates the play...

Well to be honest we don't have a front 7 that scares anyone at this point. We still have no NT that can dominate the game and without that you can just forget about being a dominant front 7. You add Channing Crowder to the mix and you have almsot zero pressure form the two most important positions in a 3-4 defense. Joey Porter needs help on the other side, which I hope Cam Wale can bring, but we don't know that and to be honest there's really no one in FA that will step in at a low cost and dominate the game for us. We still have the draft and I hope we address a few things, but I don't see those things being NT or ILB. Maybe OLB and WR.

strong pass rush helps coverage. strong center defense give sthe edge to the corners. strong running game controls the game clock. all factors in our game that should help shore up the corners. we'll do just fine w/o the shut-downs, until we develop our own

Remember those picks Pennington threw against Balt in the playoffs? It was because of Balt's defensive line getting pressure, not because of good CB play. Just an example of why you don't need a shutdown corner.

Wow first of all that article is written by real football 365 which is the worst site for information on the Dolphins that there is. Second of all anybody who doesn't think that we need an upgrade at CB is wrong. I think it is more of a case where we didn't want to pay big money to an average CB. We will upgrade our CB before Free agency and the draft is over with, and I'm going to remember the people who said we don't need good CB's if we are getting toasted by the passing game and there is a million post about are secondary. ( like after the Arizona game) I don't care what scheme we are running it isn't about x's and O's, its about moes and Joes. Meaning great players will make great plays. Trust me Bill P would like nothing better then a great player at the CB position right now. He isn't however going to overpay for a good one.

remember the TD Favre threw to Chansi Stuckey week 1, it wasn't because we didn't get pressure, it was because our entire defensive backfield turned retarded. Just an example of why you can't function without some talent at corner.

Parcells has already PROVEN that he will invest heavily at CB.....it's just flatout wrong to suggest otherwise. Just seems that the talent hasn't matched the price tag this free agency period.

Exactly

I don't see that shut down DL and Lb core either.

Hopefully Langford and especially Merling will progress. And Wake will be a beast otherwise....well lets not even go there.

You might say we have a lot riding on this draft......
