“I’ve never seen anything this fast,” Finnegan said. “It’s great. It’s going to be great for us as an offense and defense. To go against one another, compete at this level and do it with this many bullets flying and people running around. So I’m enjoying it.”

“I think it’s great what the offense is giving us. It’s going to help us game time. Game speed’s going to definitely be slowed down for us and we appreciate it,” Finnegan said.

The big winner here? Dolphins fans, who finally have something to look forward to on offense.

"I hope no one ever calls us sluggish," Lazor said Monday. "There are a lot of different ways to play, and we want to play fast, there's no doubt about it."

Here's my concern: For two years we heard about how fast the team practiced and how much Joe Philbin wanted an up-tempo offense, but we almost never saw anything like what we were promised. When we actually GOT the up-temp offense (i.e. two minute drills at the end of halves) it actually performed fairly well.

When are we actually gonna get the up-tempo offense?

This is what sports writers like to do most..

take a quote and run with it

He was asked a question, and he replied. He was talking about the PRACTICE speed of the offense.

Did he ever play against the eagles?

I agree that Miami did really well w. uptempo offense, but it might have been due to putting Tannehill in the shotgun and putting the offense on his shoulders. It gave him a split second more to get the ball out, gave the defenders a split second less to key on plays, and didn't rely as much on center giving away plays (run v. pass, etc.). Played to the best strength of the team (QB vs. RBs) and mitigated a couple major disadvantages: OL play, giving away plays, making the O less dependent on its mediocre to poor parts.

(On how much he would compare the offense to what he’s seen from with the St. Louis Rams and the Tennessee Titans) – “I’ve never seen anything this fast. It’s great. The up-tempo offense sure beats the watching paint dry type of offense from a fans standpoint but it will also increase the chances of mental mistakes and penalties so got to be disciplined. Also, if you are not converting on third downs etc. it puts even more pressure on the defense. If they can learn the offense and keep the mistakes to a minimum it will pressure the opposing defense though like New England does and hopefully finally allow this offense to score more points a game.

It's fast allright, and if Foles can thrive imagine what Tannehill can do. But, let's be cautious, it can also be prone to more mistakes, int's, and missed assignments by players, if not executed with complete accuracy. Opposing tames will prepare for us. There is some tape (Eagles, for example), and there will be more. It can desorient some defenses, wear them out, but it can also lead to inacurracy, especially with little time (or no time) to read what a Defense is preparing for. You might be quick as a ninja, but if you get punched in the mouth, you'll be confused just as quickly!!

Both PFT and NFL.com left that part out.

Not actually. We saw a very fast tempo practice and we used that tempo in the early part of Philbin's first season. But Tannehill was a raw rookie and our offense simply couldn't execute it. So our defense got hung out to dry by being worn out.

Very early in that first season we abandoned it, much to my displeasure. We didnt really give it another try in earnest.

Now Lazor comes in and wants to do the same thing. But, we have Wallace, Gibson, Matthews and Landry that we didn't have before. Tannehill is no longer a rookie. And our entire OL fits the ZBS scheme.

We are in a much better place to do it successfully than we were at the start of Tannehill's rookie season. I'm expecting much better results.

The problem before was 3 and outs. Tannehill's 2nd year he turned that weakness into a strength. When Gibson was healthy he was among the league leaders in catches for first downs. Now we have added Landry and have a more experienced Matthews. Plus w have a TE who can do more than run deep routes.

It is time to become a fast paced offensive team.

If I remember correctly we did the uptempo offense in preseason which led to a bunch of 3 and outs.

I have been stuck with Matt Ryan at QB in my fantasy football keeper league the last couple years....I think I will drop him and add Tannehill. I think 4500 yards passing and 35 TD's is realistic in this offense. At least it should not be boring.

An offense that could make Al Davis turn over in his grave?

I want one so fast that Al Davis humps his coffin it excites him so much!
