it can vary, but yds/gm...we are #4

The defense is #4 in yards/game. The Pass Defense is #6 in yards/game.

This is a little mis-leading, though. In points allowed... the dolphins are in a 3-way tie for 18th place (only 12 teams have surrendered more points than us).

Other Defensive categories: Cmp %(62%), INTS(3), 3rd-down conversions(40%), 4th-down conversions(75%) are ranked 25th or worse.

The Defensive Line is playing great, though. Holliday is leading all NFL DT's in tackles, and Traylor has 3 sacks(he had 2 sacks in 16 games last year). Jason Taylor is playing well, too.

Additionally, Zach Thomas leads the league in Tackles(60), and is on pace for 160, which would be a career high.

That is a VERY misleading statistic because our offense has been pathetic so opponents have been very close to the vest and only opening up their playbook when the need arises.
Every time our offense does do something to get us back in the game our opponents turn it up a notch on offense and hit big plays.
It's happened over and over again.
If our offense could score points and our opponents had to keep up I think our D statistics would be much worse.

If anyone thinks the defense is good they are smoking crack. When a stop is needed most the defense never delivers. Everytime we score, I know its rare, but the other team immediately scores right back. I have been saying this for weeks, if our offense could score points our defense would be exposed.

its a bright spot, but again, i must rain on the parade.

we have played NOTHING BUT BUMS!! [and lost].

texans, buffalo, titans [we should have lost to them],
the jets.....one quality team, the squeelers, who are
kindof mediocre right now are the only legit team we
have faced. and the pats, not the offensive power
house they were.

i would hate to think what a big time offense would do
to this rag tag secondary.

hey, i am gald we have a top 4 defense and i hope it
stays that way. i want to go into the draft and f/a
only worrying about the offense.

but we just havent been tested yet. we have played
a lot of bums and two under achievers.

A perfect example of why stats don't tell the whole truth.........

I somewhat disagree. Stats do tell the truth. But looking at only 1 number, or 1 stat doesn't always tell the "WHOLE STORY".

"Points Allowed" is generally more important. However, "Points Allowed" does not capture poor play by the offense... ie. AJ Feeley interceptions returned for Touchdowns, poor field position etc.

"Yards/game" is usually less prone to errors caused by a lousy offense. However, this stat shows its errors with the dolphins.

Basically, the D-line is playing well, causing other teams to use a short-passing game on us. (Opponents are using a dink-and-dunk offense like us). This is a high completion % offense. The d-line, and the poor competition has allowed our secondary to not be fully-exploited.

On a positive, the secondary is not allowing for RAC. However, they are not defending passes either. Renaldo Hill has 0 passes defended in 6 games. Is he really starting? 42% 3rd down conversion is abysmal.

In the case of the dolphins, the "points/game" stat of "18th ranked defense" seems more true than the "4th in yards/game"

does your points/game stat take into account the numerous times our offense has turned the ball over in our own territory?

This is also a perfect example of how Miami can rarely get it all together. If we have Marino, we have no running game, and Tom Outofajobbi running the defense...We get a Defense and our Offense goes into hiding, or we get D and a Running Game, and Wannstedt is the coach, clinging to 2-3rd string QB's....who cant finish a game.
Chicago is a excellent example of a team destined to win the SuperBowl, or at least have a supreme chance to. They beat the teams they are suppossed to, and are able to over come when they get out played. I still cant believe they won with Grossman throwing 4 int and losing 2 fumbles. They erased a 20 point defecit with NO OFFENSIVE POINTS. That is crazy....I still cant believe it.
Last year opening day...Miami beats Denver...Chiefs wallop the Jets. following week, we go to New York and lose 17-7. This year Jets get smashed by the Jags...next week we lose to them 20-17.
The only thing I can say about the Dolphins is that they are not packing it in like the Raiders are...Miami has been competitive in all the games.
